While the DCHS Tigerette softball team started last week off with a win, taking Macon County down in a 7-0 game on Tuesday (April 19) in Smithville, but found themselves with their first two regular-season losses by week’s end.
DeKalb bested Macon by scoring seven runs on 13 hits, scoring a run in the first, three in the second, one in the third, and two more in the sixth.
Kayley Caplinger put another win on the books, striking out ten batters while holding Macon scoreless on two hits. DeKalb committed one error in the game, while Macon recorded two.
Caplinger helped out on offense by joining Dani Meadows, and Tyra Graham in blasting home runs. Lexi Bates swung the bat for a single and a triple, and Myranda Bailiff ripped a triple as well.
Katie Hall and Joni Robinson hit two singles each for the Tigerettes, and Caplinger, Meadows, and Allison Maynard added a single each.
DeKalb’s first regular-season loss on Thursday was also the team’s first district defeat. The Tigerettes fell to Livingston Academy 5-3 in a tight road game.
After going into the second half of the third inning with a 2-0 advantage, DCHS allowed Livingston to break a four-run rally in the last half of the inning. DeKalb scored again in the fourth, and LA added an insurance run in the sixth to ensure the win.
Caplinger hit a single and a double for the Tigerettes, Meadows smacked a double as well, and Hall, Bailiff, Maynard and Robinson put in a single each. Bothe teams put seven hits on the books in the match, while the Tigerettes committed four errors and Livingston two.
Caplinger took the loss from the mound, striking out seven batters.
The Tigerettes allowed the visiting Warren County Lady Pioneers to jump out to a 3-0 lead in their first at-bat Friday afternoon, and though the defense clamped down after the first inning, DeKalb’s bats never warmed up, and the damage was done.
DeKalb brought in another run in the second, and scored another in the bottom of the seventh, when the Tigerettes threatened to pull the game out, but fell just short of the win with a final score of 3-2.
While DeKalb scored two runs on six hits, the Lady Pioneers put four runs on the board with only four hits. DeKalb booked five errors, while WCHS logged three.
Meadows ponded out a triple for DeKalb, and Graham, Bates, Hall, Maynard and Robinson hit singles.
The Tigerettes, 23-4-1 as of Monday, hosted Cannon County yesterday, and will meet Smith County at DCHS tomorrow (April 28). The season will wind up with a trip to Baxter to face the Upperman Bees on May 2 at 4:30 p.m., and district tournaments will begin on May 6 in Baxter.
