The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes softball team suffered a two-game slide last week, falling to Upperman on Tuesday, then again to Macon County on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, April 25, the Tigerettes hosted the Lady Bees in what would be a low-scoring game, Upperman would get on the board first, scoring one run at the top of the first, then another in the second.
The Tigerettes would not get anything going until the bottom of the fifth. Zayleigh Bain singled on a bunt to third base, and later Morgan Walker doubled on a line drive to center sending Bain home. DeKalb had cut the lead 2-1.
Upperman would fight back at their next at bat, scoring four more runs and taking a 6-1 lead. The Tigerettes would not give up however and would scoring yet another run as they came to bat at the bottom of the sixth. Emma Martin doubled on a line drive to center, and later Aly Griffith singled on a fly to right as Martin scored.
DeKalb held Upperman to a three and out at the top of the seventh inning and then had one last chance at bat. Madison Martin singled on a line drive to center, then Walker would get a walk. Bri Murphy would then single on a line drive to center as Martin crossed the plate and Walker took third. Walker would steal her way home, but then Murphy would get caught trying to steal second, followed by a fly out to right by Emma Martin. The Lady Bees claimed the 6-4 win.
Kora Kilgore took the loss from the circle, going five and two-thirds innings, allowing six runs on six hits, striking out six. Murphy threw one and a third inning in relief.
The following day, the ladies were back on the field, this time taking on the Macon County Lady Tigers. If you like pitching, this was the game for you.
The game would go to the top of the third before any points would get on the board. With two outs on the board, and runners at third and second, a grounder and an error at shortstop gave Macon two runs. As it would turn out, that would be the only points of the game by either side. Macon claimed the 2-0 win.
Murphy took the loss for the Tigerettes, giving up two runs on three hits over seven innings, striking out two and walking zero. Aniston Farler, Emma Martin, Madison Martin, and Griffith each had one hit in the game.
