The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes continued to show why they are a dominate force in girls’ softball last week by adding four more wins. One win in particular was a milestone for the team’s head coach, Danny Bond, giving him his 600th win with the program.
On April 8, the Tigerettes were on the road in Jamestown, facing district opponent York. There, the team would get a big win, not only for the team, but also for the coach.
DeKalb got the early lead and never let go. The Tigerettes scored two runs in the first inning, and another seven in the second. The scoring would not stop, with another run in the third inning, and four more in the fourth. While the offense kept the scoreboard moving, the defense did its job, keeping York away from home plate. DCHS got the win, and the 600th victory for Coach Bond, 14-0.
DeKalb had 14 runs on 11 hits, and zero errors, while York had one hit, and one error. Lauren Colwell was the winning pitcher.
Tyra Graham had three singles in the game, while Danielle Tyson had two. Shauna Taylor, Reagan Patton, Maddie Dickens, Dani Meadows, Kayley Caplinger, and Colwell each had one single.
"The 600th is a program win," Coach Bond told the Review. "You’ve got so many girls, assistant coaches, parents, and other people involved, it’s a group effort. I just happened to be at the helm when all that was taking place."
This is Coach Bond’s 29th season, and he said there have been a lot of girls that have contributed to the team over the years. "I’ve got some who have daughters now that were on the first team. You’ve got to have good girls, good parents, and a good administration behind you to be able to accomplish something like that. I just feel fortunate that people have gave me the opportunity to do it."
When asked about the Tigerettes’ season this year, and the number of wins the team has accomplished, Coach Bond said, "We surprise people from time to time. We’re going to try to keep going, but we’ve still got some work to do. There’s still some little things we can do to get better, and that’s what we work on everyday."
Through the rest of the week’s games, the Tigerettes did not let up, adding three more wins.
On April 9, the Tigerettes went up against Macon County, and played a tight game. Both teams came away with one run in the first inning, but DeKalb pulled away in the second with three.
