The DCHS Tigerette softball team wrapped up the regular season on May 3 with a 14-0 win over the Upperman Lady Bees in Baxter, then traveled back Baxter to take a win from York Institute in the first round of the District 8-AA tournament.
Winning pitcher Kelly Roberts made the most of her time on the mound, allowing the Lady Bees only five hits and shutting them down on the scoreboard.
DeKalb scored 14 runs on 15 hits, opening up with five runs in the first inning against Upperman, then adding five more in the second. The Tigerettes put four more on the board in the fifth to clinch the win.
Tyra Graham blasted a home run, a double and a single for DeKalb, while Allison Maynard smacked a double and a triple. Joni Robinson and Dani Meadows put in doubles, Hannah Walker ripped four singles, and Kendal Taylor and Lexi Bates dropped a single each.
The Tigerettes committed one error in the game, while Upperman put three on the books.
The Ladies from DeKalb then faced the Lady Dragons on May 7, taking the first game of district tourney play in a 13-0 shutout.
DeKalb enjoyed an eight-run lead at the end of the second, putting four runs on the board in each of the first two innings. The Tigerettes added three more in the third, then two in the fourth to end the game.
DeKalb scored 13 runs on 15 hits, while Kayley Caplinger led the Tigerettes to victory from the mound, allowing York only three hits and no runs. No errors were committed in the contest.
Meadows ripped two doubles and a single for DeKalb, while Bates placed three singles. Graham added a double and a single for the Tigerettes, and Taylor hit a double as well. Kristina Bain, Maddison Parsley, Allison Maynard, Hannah Walker, Myranda Bailiff and Hanah Panter contributed singles.
The Tigerettes faced Upperman again Monday in Baxter, this time with the intention of putting the Lady Bees in the loser’s bracket of the district tournament. More on this game in next week’s Review.
