The DCHS Tigerettes began fast-pitch softball action last week by unleashing on the Cannon County Lionettes in a 14-0 win in Smithville Tuesday.
Winning pitcher Kayley Caplinger led the Tiger defense, pitching a no-hitter against the district border rival. The Tigerettes scored 14 runs on 11 hits, committing no errors.
DeKalb opened up with four runs in the first inning, blew up with eight runs in the second, and added two more in the third. Cannon County put four errors on the books, but had no runs or hits in the game.
Hannah Walker blasted one over the fence, while Tyra Graham ripped two triples and a single in the contest. Katie Hall doubled and singled and Lexi Bates slapped a double. Caplinger, Dani Meadows, Allison Maynard and Joni Robinson hit a single each.
DeKalb then pulled off another shutout against Smith County Thursday, defeating another district rival in a 12-0 game.
The Tigerettes scored 12 runs on 14 hits, putting one run on the board in the first, two more in the third, four in the fourth, one in the fifth, and four in the sixth, committing one error. While Smith played an error-free game, the Lionette offense only managed one hit.
Kayley Caplinger, again the winning pitcher, put two over the fence on offense. Allison Maynard blasted one out of the park as well. Tyra Graham, Allison Maynard and Joni Robinson hit a double each, and Graham, Hannah Walker, and Lexi Bates each smacked two singles. Robinson and Dani Meadows added singles for DeKalb as well.
With only one regular season game left to play, the Tigerettes are set to enter tournament play at the top of the district, boasting a 25-4-1 record for the season, and a district record of 12-1 before facing Upperman on Monday.
Livingston Academy follows DeKalb with an 11-3 district record. LA is 18-6 on the season. Macon County has a 10-3 district/15-5 season record, and Upperman stands at 9-4/19-12.
Cannon County is 4-8 in district play and 5-10 on the season, while Smith has a record of 4-9/12-13. York Institute is 0-12/1-16 so far, and Central Magnet brings up the rear in District 8AA with a 0-10/0-17 record.
The Tigerettes traveled to Baxter to face Upperman on May 16, and will begin district tourney play Friday, again in Baxter. District competition will continue through May 11, and region semifinals will begin on April 16.
