The DeKalb County Tigerettes Softball team's schedule was throw into chaos last week, with rain postponing several of the team's games, while Monday's game against Central Magnet was cancelled due to coronavirus concerns. The team was able to get in three games, coming away with one huge win.
Rain came out the big winner of the week, forcing the Tigerettes to cancel a game with Watertown last Thursday, and all Saturday games at the Gordonsville Tournament, held at Cane Creek Sportsplex in Cookeville, TN. The team did manage to get in several games on Friday at the tournament, with the Tigerettes coming out big in one game.
In a game with Kingston, the Tigerettes saw the lead fall early and they were never able to recover in a 4-1 loss. Kingston took the lead on a single in the first inning, scoring two runs. Kingston surrendered one run on three hits over four innings, striking out four and walking one.
Tigerette pitcher, Ellie Cripps, took the loss for DeKalb in four innings, allowing seven hits and four runs, while striking out four and walking one.
With one hit each, Emme Colwell, Cripps, and Morgan Walker led the Tigerettes in hits, while Kingston totaled seven hits in the game.
It was the same in a game against Heritage, with the lead falling early, and DeKalb not able to overcome the deficit.
In a 6-1 loss, Heritage scored on a single and a double in the first inning. Heritage scored four runs in the third inning. The Heritage pitcher, lasted four innings, allowing six hits and one run while striking out nine and walking zero.
Emma Johnson took the loss for the Tigerettes, surrendering two runs on two hits over two innings, and striking out one. Morgan Walker went two-for-two at the plate to lead DeKalb in hits.
DeKalb had one run on six hits, with two errors. Heritage had six runs on six hits, and didn't commit a single error in the field.
The Tigerettes had better results with their next game. A game with Cumberland County was called after only two and a half innings after the Tigerettes scored eight points in the first inning, then another 10 points in the second.
Cumberland was held to only two runs, coming at the top of the second inning. Overall, the Tigerettes came away with 18 runs, eight hits, and one error, with Cumberland getting two runs, on two hits, and one error.
