The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes had the week off during Spring Break last week, but did finish play at the Southern Warrior Classic in Murfreesboro on Monday, March 25. The girls would dominate one game, but fall to a tough game later that day.
In the first game, the ladies took on the Dundee-Crown Chargers, and would get on the board at the top of the first inning after Bryna Pelham doubled on a line drive to left, followed by a single fly to right by Gracie Randolph, sending Pelham home. Bri Murphy would then double on a hard ground ball to center, sending Randolph home and Murphy taking third on the throw. Kora Kilgore would then single on a pop fly to the pitcher as Murphy scored. Dundee would get off the field, but DeKalb was up 3-0.
Dundee would put to on the board when they came to bat, and would tie the game at 3 at the bottom of the second.
It wouldn’t take long for the Tigerettes to get back out in front. At the top of the third, Zayleigh Bain singled on a grounder to second, then Pelham stepped to the plate again. She hit a double line drive to center as Bain scored. Pelham would then take third as Randolph singled on a grounder and an error by short. Murphy was then back at the plate and hit a single ground ball to center, sending Pelham home and Randolph to second.
After Kilgore had an out on a pop foul, and Elaina Turner lined out to third, Raylie Cowan stepped to the plate and homered on a line drive to center. Dundee would get off the field, but DeKalb commanded a 8-3 lead.
Dundee added one more run at the bottom of the third, but then the Tigerettes pretty much sealed the game shut at the top of the fourth. Rylee Wilbur doubled on a line drive to center, and later Pelham singled on a line drive to center as Wilbur scored.
After Pelham stole second, Murphy would hit a double on a line drive to left, as Pelham touched the plate. Murphy would steal third as Kilgore was at the plate, then Kilgore singled on a grounder to center, sending Murphy home. Chaylea Lunsford would run for Kilgore and steal second as Turner was at the plate. Turner would then single on a grounder to left as Lunsford touched home. The Tigerettes had increased their lead, 12-4.
Dundee would cap off their score at the bottom of the fourth, scoring two more runs, but that would be as far as they would get. The game would go one more inning, but DeKalb would take the 12-6 victory.
Kilgore earned the win, giving up six runs over four innings, striking out four and walking five. Murphy threw one inning, allowing one hit, striking out three and walking none.
Later that day, the Tigerettes would suffer defeat against a tough Washington Panthers team. DeKalb would score one run in the first inning, but that would be as far as they would go.
Washington got on the board first scoring three runs at the top of the first.
For the Tigerettes, Wilbur would take a base after a HBP, then Bain hot a grounder and reached on an error by the pitcher. Wilbur would get caught stealing third as Pelham was at the plate, then Pelham would get a walk. Randolph was next and Bain would get caught at second, but Pelham would take second on a passed ball. Randolph then singled on a line drive to right, sending Pelham home. DeKalb was on the board, but unfortunately that would be all the runs they would see.
Washington scored three more in the third, and two in the fourth to claim the 8-1 win. Murphy took the loss, going five innings, allowing eight runs on eight hits, striking out seven and walking four.
