Tigerettes Stomp Panthers and Jets
Softball

The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes softball team had a couple of blowout games last week, and one that was a battle right to the last inning.

On Tuesday, April 19, the girls were on their home field as they hosted the Stone Memorial Lady Panthers, a team DeKalb had handily defeated earlier in the season. It would again be an easy game for the Tigerettes.

The Lady Panthers would go three up, three down to start the game, then DeKalb would begin piling up the runs. Jacey Hatfield got to first with a HBP, then she would steal second as Emma Martin came to bat. She would then steal third, and score on an error by the catcher.

Martin would end up walking, and would steal her way to third as Ally Griffith stepped to the plate. Griffith would then double on a hard grounder to left, sending Martin home. Morgan Walker was up next and would walk, then Bryna Pelham grounded out to first as Griffith took third and Walker second.

Aniston Farler would get a walk, loading the bases, then Bri Murphy would go down swinging. Madison Martin was next, and would single on a line drive to left as Walker and Griffith came home. The Tigerettes were up 4-0.

DeKalb would continue where they left off at the bottom of the second, with Hatfield getting a triple on a pop fly to right. Emma Martin would walk next and steal second as Ally Griffith stepped to the plate. Griffith hit a pop fly to second and reached on an error, as Hatfield and Martin each came home.

Walker would ground out to second, but Martin would score as Griffith took third. Then, Pelham singled on a fly to center as Griffith touched home plate. Farler was up again, and she would hit a double on a ground ball to left, as Pelham scored.

Murphy and Madison Martin each took a base after a HBP, then Kennedy Polk sacrificed on a fly to center as Farler came home. By the time the Lady Panthers got off the field, DeKalb was up, 9-0.

Stone Memorial had no answers and at the bottom of the third, the Tigerettes began to add nails to the coffin. After Emma Martin got a walk, Ally Griffith doubled on a line drive to center, with Martin able to score. Walker would get a walk, then Pelham would get caught out on a dropped third strike, with Griffith scoring.

Farler would then walk, then Bri Murphy would single on a line drive to center as Walker touched the plate. The Tigerettes increased the lead 12-0.

The Lady Panthers would avoid the shutout at the top of the fourth, after three walks and a HBP had a runner with an easy trip home.

DeKalb added the final nail at the bottom of the fourth. Kora Kilgore singled on a grounder to left, and Hatfield, courtesy running for Kilgore, would take second on a passed ball as Avery Agee was at the plate. Agee would go down swinging, then Hatfield took third as Makayla Scales was at the plate. Scales would ground out to second, but Hatfield would come home. DeKalb would hold on for the 13-1 victory.

Murphy claimed the win from the circle, going three innings, with no runs on two hits, striking out four and walking zero. Chloe Lawson and Gracie Randolph would help end the game.

On Wednesday, April 20, the Tigerettes were in Baxter where they faced off with the Lady Bees of Upperman. This would be a pitcher’s game, with both teams battling to the final inning.

There was no offense for either team until the bottom of the sixth, when the Lady Bees would get on the board, then add two more runs.

The game would go to the top of the seventh, but DeKalb would be kept off the scoreboard for the 3-0 loss.

Kilgore took the loss going six innings, allowing six hits and three runs, and striking out eight.

The following day the Tigerettes would bounce back in spectacular fashion with a win over the Cumberland County Lady Jets.

Hatfield would start things off for DeKalb with a single on an error by the pitcher. As Emma Martin came to the plate, Hatfield stole second. Martin would ground out to second, but Hatfield would take third. Ally Griffith would then ground out to first, but it allowed Hatfield to cross the plate. DeKalb was up, 1-0.

Things wouldn’t get back going until the top of the third, when Emma Martin and Griffith each got a walk. Martin would steal her way to third, then, as Walker came to the plate, steal her way home, with Griffith taking second. Walker herself would then walk, and Griffith would take third on a passed ball as Pelham stepped to the plate. Pelham would double on a line drive to left as Griffith and Walker each touched the plate.

Murphy would later walk, loading the bases as Kennedy Polk came to bat. Polk would hit a triple on a line drive to center sending Pelham, Farler, and Chloe Lawson, in for Murphy, home. DeKalb commanded a 7-0 lead.

Walker would score another run for the Tigerettes at the top of the fourth, then Polk and Hatfield would each have a run after an Emma Martin triple on a line drive to center. Martin herself would score after a sacrifice fly to left by Walker.

The Lady Jets would have one more at bat, but the Tigerettes would hold on for the 11-0 shutout.

Murphy went the entire game, allowing three hits and no runs, striking out eight and walking zero.
