The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes Softball team had a busy week, taking a big victory over Smith County to start, then falling to Watertown and Macon later on.

On Monday, April 12, the Tigerettes were on their home field where they took on the Smith County Lady Owls. DeKalb put up nine runs in the third inning on its way to an 11-1 victory.

The Tigerettes got things going in the first inning, when Jacey Hatfield grounded out to the shortstop, allowing Emma Johnson to cross home plate.

In the third inning, DeKalb added nine more to the scoreboard. With bases loaded, Morgan Walker walked across home plate, then Emma Martin hit a triple, sending Johnson, Hatfield, and Aly Griffith home. Up next, Aniston Farler singled sending Martin across the plate, and later Martin singled on a grounder to first base as Farler scored. Kennedy Polk would fly out to center field, allowing Layla Walker to score after tagging up. Johnson would be up again, and single on a line drive to left field, sending Morgan Walker home. By the end of the inning, the Tigerettes were up, 10-0.

Smith County would avoid the shutout at the top of the fifth, scoring one run, but Johnson would strike again as DeKalb came to bat, hitting a line drive and sending Polk home. The Tigerettes took the 11-1 victory.

Cripps was credited with the win. She lasted four innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out four and walking one. Murphy threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

The following day, the Tigerttes were on the road, this time facing the high-powered offense of Watertown. DeKalb would get the lead in the second inning, but Watertown would pull away in the fourth.

Watertown would get on the board first off of a hard grounder to left field, scoring one run, but DeKalb would pull ahead at their next at bats. Farler would score after Madison Martin singled on a line drive to center field, then Layla Walker scored off of a sacrifice fly by Polk. Martin would later come home after Morgan Walker singled on an error by second base. Then, Johnson and Elaina Turner scored after a Hatfield single to right field. The Tigerettes were up 5-1.

That’s where the score would stay until the bottom of the fourth, when Watertown came roaring back. Watertown’s bats came to life, and by the end of the inning Watertown had taken the 8-5 lead.

DeKalb went three and out on their next turn at bat, then Watertown continued where they left off, scoring three more runs.

The Tigerettes would get another run at the top of the sixth inning, when Johnson touched home plate after a single line drive to center by Griffith, but Watertown had two more runs at the bottom of the inning.

DeKalb had one last chance as they entered the seventh. Polk would once again score after a line drive by Hatfield, but that would be the last point of the game. The Tigerettes would fall 14-7.

On Thursday, the Tigerettes fell behind early in a game against White County and would not be able to rebound.

After the Tigerettes went three and out to start the game, White County got on the board with two runs at their first at bats.

The Tigerettes would not even get a hit until the top of the fourth inning when Jacey Hatfield singled on a fly ball to center field. DeKalb would not be able to convert the hit into points however, and the game drug into the fifth.

Madison Martin singled on a line drive to center field, driving Aniston Farler home. The Tigerettes had cut the lead to one, but White County came roaring back at their next turn at bat, scoring three more runs and taking a 5-1 lead.

The game would go into the seventh inning, but White County would come away with the win. Bri Murphy took the loss, surrendering five runs on six hits over six innings, striking out two.
