Tigerettes sweep Gordonsville tournament

The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes continued to show that they are a force to be reckoned with last week after getting two wins in a doubleheader with Livingston, then sweeping the Gordonsville Tournament, at Cane Ridge Park in Cookeville, over the weekend.
On Mar. 19 the Tigerettes played a doubleheader at home against Livingston Academy.
In the first game, DeKalb would get on the board first, scoring one run in the first inning, then another three in the second. Livingston would score in the third, but DeKalb would match it in the fourth, with the games final score, 5-2.
DeKalb had seven hits, with five runs, and two errors, while Livingston had four hits, with two runs and three errors. Lauren Colwell was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts.
In the second game the Tigerettes would shut out their opponent. DeKalb scored in the first inning, then came away with seven in the fourth, sealing the win, 8-0.
DeKalb had 10 hits, with eight runs and zero errors, while Livingston had two hits, with zero runs and one error.  Kayley Caplinger was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts.
On Mar. 21, the Tigerettes were in Cookeville participating in the first day of the Gordonsville Softball Tournament. The team would play some close games, but in the end would come away sweeping the tourney.
In the first game, DCHS took on Cookeville High School.  Cookeville took the early lead, scoring one run in the second inning. The lead wouldn’t last long with the Tigerettes coming back in the third and touching home six time. In the fourth inning DeKalb would tack on four more, giving the game’s final score, 10-1.
The Tigerettes had 12 hits, with 10 runs and one error, while CHS had three hits, one run, and zero errors. Kayley Caplinger was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts. Dani Meadows scored a homerun in the game.
That same day, the Tigerettes faced off with Houston County in a much closer game. Houston took a 2-1 lead in the first inning, and added three more runs in the second. But, DCHS came back in the third, scoring five runs and putting away the game, 6-5.
DeKalb had seven hits, six runs and one error, while Houston had five hits, with five runs and zero errors. Danielle Tyson was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts.
The following day, the Tigerettes were back in action, this time taking on Henry County High School. The game would be another close one for DeKalb, but the girls would pull it out.
The Tigerettes got on the board first, scoring one run in the first inning. Henry and DeKalb would each get a run in the third, and that is where the score would stay. DCHS took the narrow win, 2-1.
DeKalb had six hits, with two runs and one error, while Henry had four hits, with one run and one error. Lauren Colwell was the winning pitcher with five batters struck out. Katie Hall had a home run in the game.
The Tigerettes next played Gordonsville in a battle for runs. The game would end with DeKalb scoring the one and only run of the game, coming in the second inning.
DCHS had one run on three hits, and zero errors, while Gordonsville had zero runs and four hits and zero errors. Kayley Caplinger was the winning pitcher with three Ks.
In the next game, the Tigerettes battled Whitwell High School in what would turn out to be another close game. The game would remain scoreless until the sixth inning, when each team got on the board with one run. The match went into the seventh with Whitwell scoring two, then DeKalb sealing the win with three points and a final score of 4-3.
DeKalb had four runs and seven hits, with one error, while Whitwell had three runs on seven hits, and zero errors. Pitcher Kayley Caplinger got the win with five strikeouts. Tyra Graham had a homerun in the game.
The Tigerettes’ next game had them pitted in a rematch against a team they had faced the day before, Houston County.
DCHS scored two runs in the first inning, and another in the third, all while keeping Houston from home plate.
DeKalb had three runs on five hits, with zero errors, while Houston had zero runs on three hits, with one error. Caplinger was the winning pitcher with three Ks.
The tournament came down to a game between the Tigerettes and Knoxville Powell High School, and in that game DeKalb struck first. scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Powell got a run in the second, but the Tigerettes matched it, keeping a 3-1 lead into the third.
Knoxville Powell came away with three runs in the third inning, taking the lead, 4-3, but the Tigerettes fired right back, scoring two points and taking the 5-4 win.
DCHS had five runs on six hits, with one error, while Powell had four runs on five hits, and zero errors. Caplinger was the winning pitcher with one strikeout.
