Tigerettes take first two rounds of district tourney

Allison Maynard led the Tigerettes with two doubles and a single against the Lionettes, and two singles and a double against Central Magnet.

 

The Tigerettes came out on top of the Cannon County Lionettes 15-3 in the first round of the District 8-AA Softball Tournament Sunday in Baxter.

 

The Tigerettes jumped out to a convincing 6-0 lead in the first inning of play, relaxed a bit with only one run in the second, third and fifth, then blasted six more runs in the sixth. Cannon scored all three of their runs in the fifth.

 

DeKalb scored fifteen runs on ten hits, committing three errors. Allison Maynard led the Tigerettes with two doubles and a single. Kayley Caplinger smacked a double and single, Maddison Parsley put a double in, and Joni Robinson doubled as well. Lexie Bates, Abbi Taylor, and Hanah Panter contributed a single each.

 

Emme Colwell was the winning pitcher. The Lionettes scored three runs on five hits and committed two errors.

 

The Tigerettes went up against Central Magnet Monday in Baxter for the second round of eliminations, taking the team from Murfreesboro down 6-1.

 

Kayley Caplinger hurled her way to the win, striking out twelve CM batters and giving up two hits. DeKalb scored six runs on eight hits, committing no defensive errors.

 

The Tigerettes went ahead 2-0 in the first, scored three more runs in the fifth, and added one more in the sixth.

 

Allison Maynard pounded out two singles and a double for the Tigerettes, while Emme Colwell put in a double. Myranda Bailiff hit two singles, and Kayley Caplinger and Kenzie France added a single each.

 

The Tigerettes play again today (Tuesday) at 6:30 p.m. in Baxter.
