Tigerettes take three shutouts

The Tigerettes shut York Institute down in both games of a doubleheader Tuesday in Smithville.

 

DeKalb defeated the Lady Dragons 11-0 in the first game. The Tigerettes scored seven runs in the first inning, and added four more in the fourth to ensure the win.

 

Winning pitcher Kayley Caplinger held York hitless, striking out eight Lady Dragons. DeKalb scored 11 runs on 12 hits, committing no errors in the contest.

 

Kelly Roberts hammered out a single and a triple for the Tigerettes, while Joni Robinson pounded a double and a triple, and Lexie Bates dropped a single and a double in. Caplinger, Kristena Bain and Maddison Parsley all singled, Myranda Bailiff and Allison Maynard smacked doubles, and Kenzie France blasted a homerun.

 

The Tigerettes gave York a 14-0 beating in the second game of the series, scoring two runs in the first, nine in the second, two more in the third and one in the fourth. Winning pitcher Emme Colwell hurled a one-hit game, and DeKalb scored 14 runs on 14 hits, committing no errors.

 

Allison Maynard led the DeKalb offense with a single, a double and a home run, and Caplinger ripped a homer as well. France put in a single and a double, Bailiff swatted a double, and Bates and Parsley hit two singles each for the Tigerettes, while Colwell, Madison Whitehead and Hanah Panter all singled. Myranda Bailiff capped the Tigerette effort with a double.

 

DeKalb scored eight runs in the first, one in the second, one in the third and five in the fourth.

 

The Tigerettes then trekked to Woodbury to hand the Cannon Lionettes a 15-0 drumming on Wednesday.

 

Winning pitcher Madison Whitehead allowed Cannon no runs on one hit, while DeKalb scored 15 runs on 10 hits and committed one error. The Tigerettes scored 8 runs in the first inning, one run in the second, another in the third and five more in the fourth.

 

Panter lifted a homerun and a single for the Tigerettes. Robinson hit a triple, and Bailiff contributed two doubles. Parsley added a double for DeKalb, while Bates, France, Maynard, and Lydia Brown singled.

 

The Tigerettes will play at the Gibbs Tournament in Knoxville this weekend, and will travel to Macon County on April 18 before returning to Smithville to host Livingston Academy at 4:30 p.m. on April 20.
