The DCHS Tigerette softball team suffered a loss and celebrated two wins this week.
The Tigerette squad suffered their first loss of the season Wednesday afternoon in Smithville when the Lady Cavaliers from Cookeville slid past them to take a 7-5 win.
Cookeville jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but added a run in the second and two more in the third on a three-run homer from Mackenzie France bringing the score to 4-3. The Tigerettes added another run in the fifth, and the score remained at 4-4 through the seventh inning, but Cookeville rode a three-run rally to a 7-4 lead in the top of the eighth. DeKalb answered with one run in the bottom of the inning to bring the final to 7-5.
The Lady Cavs scored seven runs on twelve hits, recording two errors. The Tigerettes scored five runs on eight hits, committing no errors. Kayley Caplinger took the loss on the mound, striking out ten batters.
Lexie Bates, Kayley Caplinger, Emme Colwell, and Joni Robinson all hit singles for DeKalb. Megan Walker tripled, and Kenzie France hit two homeruns and a single.
The DeKalb County Tigerettes defeated the Lady Wildcats 4-1 at Livingston Academy 4-1 Thursday.
The Tigerettes scored four runs on five hits, putting up three runs in the sixth inning and one run in the seventh, committing four errors. Livingston Academy scored one run in the fourth inning on four hits with one error.
Winning pitcher Kayley Caplinger struck out eight Livingston batters, and she and Maddison "Mad Dog" Parsley recorded a single each in the contest. Joni Robinson and Myranda Bailiff hit doubles, and Kristena Bain hammered a triple.
DeKalb defeated White County in a 19-6 rout in Sparta Friday.
The Tigerettes outscored the Lady Warriors 3-2 in a close first inning, then scored four unanswered runs in the second to pull ahead 7-2. DeKalb added six runs in the third, while White put one on the board.
The Lady Warriors fought back with two runs in the fourth and on in the fifth to bring the score to within five points at 13-9 at the beginning of the sixth inning. A six-run Tigerette rally in the sixth sounded the death knell for White County.
Emme Colwell got the win on the mound for DeKalb, whom scored 19 runs on 16 hits and committed four errors. White County scored six runs on eight hits with five errors.
Megan Walker, Kayley Caplinger, Kenzie France, and Emme Colwell each hit a single, Myranda Bailiff and Kristina Bain put in two singles each, and Lexie Bates swatted three singles. Kayley Caplinger, Emme Colwell, and Kristina Bain all doubled, Kelly Roberts put in a triple, and Kayley Caplinger blasted a homerun.
The Tigerettes traveled to Warren County on March 27 before returning to DeKalb County to host Macon on March 28, then will play Cannon County in Smithville on March 30.
