Tigerettes Win Two
Softball



The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes softball team was on the road all of last week, claiming a couple of district wins, before participating in tournament play at Green Hill.

On Monday, April 10, the girls were on the road taking on the Livingston Academy Lady Wildcats in what would be a blowout for DeKalb. The Tigerettes would take the lead early then seal the game shut in the fourth.

The Tigerettes struck first, scoring two runs at the top of the first inning. After Bryna Pelham got a walk, Gracie Randolph singled on a line drive to center. Aly Griffith was up next and singled on a line drive to center as Pelham rounded the bases and scored. Randolph would take third and Griffith second on the throw. Next, Aniston Farler singled on a ground ball to left, sending Griffith home. DeKalb was up 2-0 before the Wildcats could get off the field.

DeKalb would add one more run at the top of the third. Emma Martin singled on a bunt to third, and would steal her way to second as Pelham was at bat. Pelham would ground out to second, but Martin would take third, then Randolph grounded out to second as Martin scored. The Tigerettes held a 3-0 lead.

At the top of the fourth, the Tigerettes put the hammer down. Farler singled on a ground ball to short, then Madison Martin sacrificed to the catcher as Farler took second. Elaina Turner was up next and reached on a fly and an error to right field. Turner took second as Farler scored.

Zayleigh Bain singled on a grounder to right and would take second on the throw as Turner scored. Morgan Walker was up to bat and doubled on a line drive to center as Bain crossed the plate. Emma Martin was back up to bat and singled on a ground ball to center. She would take second on the throw as Walker took third.

Pelham was at the plate when she hit a single ground ball to center, sending Walker and Martin home. Randolph would again single on a line drive to right as Pelham took third. Bri Murphy would courtesy run for Randolph and she would steal second as Griffith was back at bat. Griffith would pop out to short, but then Farler would get a walk. Madison Martin then hit a double fly ball to center as Murphy, Pelham, and Farler scored.

Turner singled on a grounder to short, followed by Bain taking a base after a HBP. With the bases again loaded, Walker was back up to the plate. She singled on a fly ball to center and would take second on the throw as Chloe Lawson, running for Turner, scored. Bain took third as Martin touched the plate. The Tigerettes were up 13-0.

The Wildcats would avoid the shutout at the bottom of the fourth with two runs scored, but DeKalb would cap off their score with a run by Pelham at the top of the fifth. The Tigerettes would hold on for the 14-2 victory.

Murphy claimed the win for the Tigerettes from the circle, going five innings, allowing two runs on six hits and striking out three.

The following Thursday, the Tigerettes would get a shutout as they traveled to White County to face the Warriorettes.

The action wouldn’t get going until the top of the second, when Madison Martin reached and took second on a grounder and an error by shortstop. Turner would then reach on a ground ball and an error by second base, as Martin took third. Bain stepped to the plate and reached on a grounder and an error by third as Martin scored. White County would get off the field, but the Tigerettes were up 1-0.

DeKalb would add two more at the top of the third. Emma Martin would walk, followed by a single on a bunt to third by Pelham as Martin took third. Randolph stepped up and grounded out to short, but Martin would touch the plate and Pelham take third. Griffith would get a walk, then Farler would line out to right as Pelham scored. The Tigerettes were up 3-0.

The Tigerettes would cap their score at the top of the sixth with two more runs. Farler would walk, then with two outs on the board, Bain was hit by a pitch. Walker stepped to the plate and hit a single ground ball to first as Farler and Bain scored. DeKalb held a 5-0 lead.

The Game would go on through seven innings, but the Tigerettes would hang on for the 5-0 shutout. Kora Kilgore took the win going seven innings, allowing zero runs on four hits and striking out eight.

The Tigerettes would travel to Green Hills on Friday and Saturday where they participated in tournament play against Stewarts Creek, Brentwood, and Green Hill.

In the Stewarts Creek game, the Rad Hawks scored two runs at the top of the first, followed by six runs by the Tigerettes. Pelham, Murphy, Emma Martin, Randolph, Farler, and Griffith would each come away with a run off of solid hitting by DeKalb.

The Tigerettes would add four more at the bottom of the second with a home run by Bri Murphy with Walker on base, and runs by Farler and Emma Martin.

The Red Hawks would make a run in the third, scoring five runs, but that would be all they would muster. The Tigerettes claimed the 10-7 win.

That same day, the Tigerettes would fall in a close game against the Brentwood Bruins. Brentwood took a two-run lead at the top of the second, then DeKalb got on the board at the bottom of the third after Pelham stole home on an error by the catcher.

Brentwood would score one more at the top of the fourth and hang on for the 3-1 win. Murphy took the loss from the circle allowing three hits and two runs over three innings. She struck out five and walked one. Kilgore threw two innings in relief.

The following day it would be another narrow defeat for DeKalb as they took on Green Hill. Action wouldn’t begin until the third inning when Green Hill scored one run. The Tigerettes would answer as they came to bat with a run by Pelham. The game was tied 1-1.

Green hill would retake the lead at the top of the fourth, and score one more at the top of the sixth. The Tigerettes had one last at bat and the inning started out good for DeKalb. Walker was up first and tripled on a fly to centerfield. She would then score on a wild pitch. Murphy would walk and Emma Martin reached on a bunt and an error by second base, but they would all be left standing. Green Hill held on for the 3-2 win.

Kilgore took the loss from the circle, going six innings, allowing four hits and three runs, striking out five and walking zero.

Later that day the Tigerettes would face the Mount Juliet Lady Bears. DeKalb would fall behind early and never be able to catch back up.

Mount Juliet scored two runs at the top of the first, with Walker sending Pelham home for the Tigerettes as they came to bat.

Mount Juliet scored three more in the second, and one more run in the third. Emma Martin would have a two-run RBI for DeKalb at the bottom of the third, sending Murphy and Madison Martin home. That would be the last points they would see. The Lady Bears would score one more run and take the 7-3 win.

Murphy took the loss going one and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on five hits striking out one.
