Tigers Baseball Fall Two Games

Despite the rainy weather last week, the DeKalb County Tigers baseball team managed to get in two games, but against rival Upperman.

On Monday, April 8, the Tigers were on their home field as the hosted the visiting Bees. Upperman would get on the board first in the third inning, and never look back.

The Bees scored five runs at the top of the third, but DeKalb would also score a run as they came to bat in the third. Dallas Kirby would get a walk, followed by a single line drive to center by Konner Young. Kirby would score on a balk as Ty Webb was at the plate, getting DeKalb on the board, 5-1.

Upperman would score one more run at the top of the sixth, then one more at the top of the seventh. DeKalb had one last at bat, and managed two more runs. Cam Caballero walked, followed by Kirby with a single grounder and an error at short. Caballero would take third on a wild pitch, and Kirby second, then Webb singled on a hard grounder to right, as Caballero touched the plate. Brayden Carter would then single on a fly to left as Kirby scored. That would be as far as they would reach. The Bees took the 8-3 win.

Evan Prichard took the loss going two and one third innings, surrendering five runs on four hits, striking out three and walking five. Luke Johnson pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief, giving up three hits and two runs, striking out one and walking two.

Next, the Tigers were in Bee territory and they faced off against Upper yet again. DeKalb would take the early lead, but Upperman would chip away as the game wore on.

At the top of the first, Young and Webb would each get a walk, fallowed by a double line drive to left by Carter as Young came home. Later, Carson Donnell singled on a line drive to short, sending Webb home, then Carter would score on a passed ball as Evan Prichard was up to bat. The Tigers were up 3-0.

Upperman would score one run in the first, then come along and tie the game as they came to bat in the second.

The Tigers would regain the lead at the top of the third, after Webb doubled on a fly to right. Carter would then ground out at first, but Webb would score. Upperman got off the field but the Tigers were up 4-3.

The Bees would sting once more at the bottom of the third, scoring one more run and tying the score again 4-4. The Tigers could not hold out and would see Upperman retake the lead at the bottom of the fifth, scoring three more runs. That would be where the score would stay, with Upperman taking the 7-4 win.

Brayden Carter started for the Tigers on the mound, allowing three hits and three runs over one and a third innings, striking out one and walking four. Caballero came in relief, allowing four hits and four runs, striking out four and walking six.
