The DeKalb County High School Tigers football team was on the field last Friday night, getting in some real time play as they hosted Gordonsville for a scrimmage. While not a real game, the scrimmage allowed coaches to gauge their players in a game-like atmosphere with pressure from both offense and defense.
Each team took turns at offense, playing 10 or so plays before switching sides and allowing the other team to play 10 plays. While it was full contact, the teams spared the QBs from any potential injuries during play with a tag and out.
“We have a lot of juniors and seniors who have played a lot of football for us, so we are anticipating some good football. Offensively we are expecting our returning guys to take care of business. We have three or four of our receivers back and three of our offensive lineman back, so we have to fill in some spots there.
Our quarterback, Briz Trapp, is returning, and we have a four-year starting running back, Colby Barnes, coming back as well. We have a lot weapons on the offensive side that have really looked good so far in summer workouts and 7 on 7s.
Defensively we had to replace some people in the secondary and some inside backers, but it’s a pretty solid core and they have looked really well also,” said Coach Trapp.
The Tigers also debuted their brand-new video scoreboard that was installed at the Dr. John L. Vanhoosier Stadium this summer. The 16 x 10 video board has been incorporated with the existing scoreboard and features opportunities for video replays of game highlights and statistics, advertising sponsorships, and interaction for the fans, all to enhance the game night experience.
The Tigers open their 2022 season on Friday, August 19, at home against the Warren County Pioneers. The game begins at 7:00 p.m.
