With the rainy weather last week the DeKalb County High School Tigers baseball team managed to get one game on the books, while another was called after only one inning. Even so, DeKalb celebrated a win over White County, holding off a sixth inning comeback.
On Tuesday, March 16, the Tigers were on the road, taking on the White County Warriors. DeKalb got things going in the first inning, when Issac Knowles tripled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run. DeKalb would put another on the scoreboard before the end of the inning.
The Tigers would add another run in the third inning, then scored three runs in the fifth inning, with Caven Ponder, Patrick Cantrell, and Levi Cantrell each coming away with RBIs. DeKalb would put one more point on the board in the sixth inning, when White County finally added points with three runs.
The Warriors added one more run in the seventh inning, but in the end DeKalb claimed a 7-4 victory.
Cantrell led DeKalb on the mound, allowing six hits and three runs over five innings, and striking out six and walking one. Grayson Hendrix and Knowles entered the game to help close out the game in relief. The White County pitcher surrendered three runs on four hits over four innings, striking out eight.
The Tigers had 10 hits in the game. Knowles, Jacob Johnson, Cantrell, and Dexton Emberton all managed multiple hits, with Knowles leading DeKalb with three hits in four at bats. White County came away with ten hits, and didn't commit a single error.
The scheduled road game with Grundy County on March 18 had to be called after one inning due to rain.
