Tigers Destroy Bledsoe, advance to next round

On Saturday night the Tigers played host in the opening game in the Region 4 AA Tournament against Bledsoe County. The Tigers walked away with an impressive victory over the Warriors  with a 82-39 beating, the Tigers advance to the semi-final game.
In the first quarter,  the Tigers showed they were well prepared for the game,  having  almost a full week to anticipate what their opponent would bring to the court as DeKalb blew out the Warriors in the opening period,  outscoring them 24-9.
The Tigers held Bledsoe scoreless for most of the period, allowing the first point coming off a single free-throw shot ending their drought and stopping the Tigers’ 18-1 run.
The Tigers were distributing the ball well, having five different players score for the team. The leading scorer for the first period with 12 was Sonni Young; at one point Young tossed in eight straight.
In the second quarter, the Warriors showed that they were not quite ready to be put out of the tournament, keeping up with the Tigers as both teams dropped in 14 points in the second period with the Tigers still  on top with a commanding  38-23 lead.
The Tigers were  again led by Sonni Young as he added six more to his total going into half time with 18 points.
In the third quarter, the Tigers again found their way to the boards, outscoring Bledsoe 24-9. The Tigers received a huge surge of points coming from Stephen Howell, who had the hot hand in the period, leading the team with 13 points after being held scoreless for the first half. At one point in the period Howell tossed in 10 straight for the Tigers.
In the fourth quarter, for a final time the Tigers outscored and outmatched Bledsoe Warriors, only allowing  them to score seven points, all the while tossing in  20 points. Zach Vincent led the team in the final period with nine points.
The Tigers were led in scoring by Sonni Young as he tossed in 23, followed by Stephen Howell with 18. Braxton Atnip added 13 and Zach Vincent accounted for 12. Ethan Roller added 10, Lucas Phillips had four and Eli Lomas contributed two.
