Yair Mata was on fire last week, scoring six goals in one game and one in another.


The DeKalb County High School Tigers soccer team started their season off right with a big win on the road against Upperman. DeKalb had 11 goals in the game with goalie Conner Vance getting three saves.

On Tuesday, March 14, Yair Mata scored the first goal six minutes in with an assist by Axel Aranda. Miguel Mata scored a goal four minutes later with an assist by Yair.

It was Yair again at the 29 minute mark, followed by a goal by Aranda 35 minutes in, again with an assist by Yair. Cameron Miller would score a goal 36 minutes in, just before the half, with an assist by Yair.

The Tigers kept rolling in the second half, with Yair finding the net just three minutes in with an assist by Aranda. Miguel Mata would strike again six minutes later with an assist by Jonathon Zavala, then it would be Yair’s turn again 13 minutes in with an assist by Miguel.

Yair Mata was unstoppable in the game, scoring yet another goal 15 minutes in with an assist by Aranda, then he would ice the cake 22 minutes in with yet another goal and an assist by Cameron Miller. One minute later, Brandon Silva would score the Tigers’ final goal of the game, giving DeKalb the 11-2 victory.

The following Thursday, the Tigers were on their home field, this time hosting a top team from Coffee County. It would be a battle throughout the game, with the match ending in a 2-2 tie.

Miguel Mata scored the Tigers’ first goal of the game 36 minutes in with an assist by Ryder Miller. Yair Mata would get on the board in the second half, with an assist by Miguel.

Conner Vance would have five saves in the game.
