An umpire chose the wrong place to stand during a tournament game between the Tigers and the Upperman Bees.

The DeKalb County Tigers ended their season last week in postseason play with two losses, one to the Upperman Bees and another to the Livingston Academy Wildcats.
On Tuesday, May 7, the Tigers returned to the SportsCom in Murfreesboro where they continued play in the District 8AA Baseball Tournament.  There, they faced their longtime opponent the Upperman Bees in a game in which interference and missed opportunities were part of the plays.
DeKalb put points on the board first, scoring one run in the first inning, but Upperman came back in the bottom of the second with two runs, thanks to some interference calls.  One play to first baseman Devin Summers saw an umpire get in the way, knocking the official to the ground but also making a throw to home plate difficult. Another play involved a rundown from home plate to third base where third baseman John Roller was called for interference and the runner was allowed to score a run.
As play continued the Bees scored another run in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth.  In the end DeKalb was able to make things interesting, scoring two runs in the sixth inning, bringing the score to within just one point. In the top of the seventh, DeKalb was unable to bring in any runs, sealing the win for Upperman 4-3.
Tigers’ pitcher Hunter Graham pitched four innings, giving up four runs on three hits, striking out four and walking four. Chase Hoke and Stephen Howell each pitched one inning, each getting one strike out. Evan Curtis, Seth Stanley, and Aaron Patterson each recorded a single during the game, while Hunter Graham and Cody Puckett each took a double.
With the loss the Tigers would return to Murfreesboro the following day, this time to face the Livingston Academy Wildcats.  In that game DeKalb would see only two runs, while the Wildcats’ batting was strong in the third and fourth innings.
The Tigers took the lead in the bottom of the first inning, scoring one run, but the Wildcats would come on strong, scoring four runs in the top of the third inning, and another four in the top of the fourth.  DeKalb would see their only other run in the bottom of the fourth inning with the game ending 8-2.
Tigers’ pitcher Devin Summers gave up seven runs on nine hits in three and two-thirds innings, striking out three and walking two. Chase Hoke came in and gave up one run on one hit, walking one, then Stephen Howell came in for one and two-thirds innings, giving up one hit, striking out two, and walking one. Cody Puckett struck out five and gave up one hit in one and two-thirds innings.
Hunter Graham recorded a home run during the game, as well as a single. Devin Summers, Stephen Howell, and A.J. Mooneyham each had a single during play.
The Tigers finished their season with a total record of 20-6.
