The DeKalb County Tigers Soccer team traveled to Chattanooga last Friday to play Notre Dame in the first round of the regional tournament. While just being in the tournament was a testament to the team’s playing abilities, the match proved too much for the local players.
The game looked promising early on with the Tigers seeing a few opportunities at the Fighting Irish’s goal. There were several goal attempts made as DeKalb tested Notre Dame’s goalie, but each time the effort was in vain.
The tide soon turned on the Tigers as the Irish showed more skill at ball control and passing. Notre Dame then tested DeKalb’s goalie, Ben Driver, who certainly received a workout during the game. After several attempts the Irish scored, then scored again.
DeKalb seemed sluggish on the field, and soon defense was all the Tigers could play. The ball remained on Notre Dame’s side of the field, continually challenging Driver’s abilities.
Tigers Coach Kleparek tried to rally his team at halftime, but in the end the Tigers fell to Notre Dame with a 7-0 loss. The loss ends the Tigers’ 2013 season.
