The DeKalb County High School Tigers basketball team had a tough couple of games last week, battling Macon County at home, then traveling to Smith County to take on the Owls. It would be a tough week for the Tigers.
On Jan. 27, the Tigers were on their home court, taking on the Tigers of Macon County. It would be a tough game right from the beginning.
DeKalb scored 12 points in the first period, while Macon came away with 21. Isaac Beck had a three-point basket and a pair of two-pointers, while Aaron Haggard sank a three-point shot. Justin Bone came away with two free throw points.
The Tigers scored 11 points in the second period, with Beck getting a two-pointer, a three-pointer, and a free throw, while Haggard had a three-point basket. Bone had a two-pointer. The Macon Tigers were a juggernaut, with 22 more points and a 43-23 halftime lead.
Beck had a two and three-pointer in the third period, while Bone had a couple of two-point baskets. Haggard had a three-point shot, while John Roller got a pair of two-pointers. Marshal Evins had a couple of free throw points. Macon pushed their lead ahead with 28 more points, taking a 71-41 lead.
DeKalb had 14 points in the fourth period, with Aaron Patterson getting a couple of two-point shots and three free throw points, while Bone added a couple of two-pointers. Beck had a two-pointer, while Gentry Harpole had a free throw point. It was far from enough, and Macon padded their victory with 23 more points. The Macon Tigers took the 94-55 win.
Patterson was three for four on free throws, while Bone was two for three. Evins was two for two, while Beck and Harpole were each one for two.
On Jan. 30, the Tigers were on the road, this time taking on the Smith County Owls. The game would stay close, and come down to the fourth period.
The Tigers scored 12 points in the first period, with Haggard getting a two and three-pointer, while Bone got a pair of two-pointers. Kevin Aldino had a two-point basket, while Beck had a free throw shot. Smith jumped out with the lead with 16 points.
DeKalb kept a steady pace in the second period, taking 13 points. Bone had a three-pointer and two two-pointers, while Haggard had a two-point basket and a three-pointer. Aldino had a free throw. The Owls were held to nine points, tying the score at the half, 25 all.
The Tigers scored 14 points in the third period, with Bone coming away as the top scorer. He had four two-pointers, a three-pointer, and two free throw points, while Beck added a free throw point. The Owls pulled ahead with 21 points, and a 46-39 lead.
DeKalb put 10 points on the scoreboard in the fourth period. Haggard had a three-pointer and a couple of free throws, while Patterson had a two-pointer and a free throw. Aldino had a two-pointer. Smith was held to five points, but it was enough. The Owls got the win, 51-49.
Beck was two for four on free throws, while Aldino was one for four. Bone was two for three, while Haggard was two for two. Patterson was one for two.
