The DeKalb County High School Tigers basketball team faced a tough part of their schedule last week, traveling to Cannon County, then on the road again to face the Upperman Bees.
On Jan. 13, the Tigers were in Lion country as they traveled to Woodbury to face Cannon County. It would be a tough night for DeKalb County fans.
The Tigers scored 17 points in the first period, with Isaac Beck and Aaron Patterson each getting a pair of three-point baskets, and Justin Bone getting a two and three-pointer. The Lions were all over the court, taking 24 points and the early lead.
Beck had another pair of three-pointers in the second period, while Gentry Harpole got a two-point shot. Bone scored a couple of free throw points. The Lions increased their lead with 19 points, and a 43-27 halftime score.
The Tigers scored 11 points in the third period, with Bone getting three two-pointers, Aaron Haggard a three-pointer, and Patterson a two-point basket. Cannon County added 14 points to the scoreboard, taking a 57-38 lead.
DeKalb came away with 19 points in the fourth period, with Bone taking six two-point baskets, and Patterson getting two and a free throw point. Beck also had a two-pointer. The Lions scored 20, taking the 77-57 win.
Bone was two for three on free throws, while Patterson was one for one.
On Jan. 16, the Tigers were again on the road, this time taking on the Upperman Bees. The game would be closer than the previous match.
The Tigers scored 12 points in the first period, with Bone getting three two-pointers and a three-point basket, while Haggard got a three-pointer of his own. The Bees got 14 points and the lead.
DeKalb scored eight points in the second period, with Haggard getting a three-pointer, John Roller and Patterson each with a two-point basket, and Beck getting a free throw. Upperman got 15 points, increasing their lead 28-20 at the half.
Bone and Haggard each scored a three-pointer in the third period, while Beck scored for free throw points and Patterson scored one. The Bees continued to rack up points, getting 16, and a 44-31 lead.
The Tigers score 17 in the fourth period. Beck had two two-pointers and a three-pointer, as well as three free throw points. Patterson had a three-pointer, while Bone and Jonathon Munoz each had a two-pointer. The Bees scored 15, taking the 59-48 victory.
Beck was eight for 10 on free throws, while Patterson was one for two.
