The DeKalb County High School Basketball Tigers went 2-2 on the season last week after losing to border rival Warren County, then bouncing back with a win against Red Boiling Springs at home. The team's season came to a halt later in the week after a Covid-19 diagnosis lead to the team being quarantined. A road game scheduled on the road in Grundy County was cancelled.

On Monday, Nov. 23, the Tigers were on the road, facing off against the border rival Warren County Pioneers. DeKalb would fall behind early and never recover.

The Tigers scored 10 points in the first quarter. Brayden Antoniak had a pair of two-pointers, while Evan Jones had one. Jordan Young and Luke Jenkins each had two points off of free throws.

The Pioneers scored 15, with Dee Spates getting four two-point baskets, while Kaden Rutledge and Aiden Cummings each getting one. C.J. Taylor added three points off of free throws.

Antoniak and Jones each had a two-point shot for the Tigers in the second quarter, while Elishah Ramos had a free throw.

The Pioneers tacked on 10 more points, with Spates getting three more two-pointers, while Eli Kuykendall had a two-pointer and two free throw points. Warren County took the 25-15 halftime lead.

It would be no better for the Tigers in the second half. DeKalb only scored seven points in the third quarter, with Ramos getting a three and two-pointer, and Antoniak coming away with a two-point basket.

Warren County increased their lead, coming away with 15 more points. Rutledge had three two-point shots and a three-pointer, while Spates and Taylor each had a two-point basket. Aaron Ashburn also added two points from free throws. The Pioneers were up, 40-22.

The Tigers only scored five in the fourth quarter. Jenkins had a three-pointer while Antoniak scored a two-point shot.

The Pioneers sealed the victory with 20 more points. Cummings and Nate Elrod each had a pair of two-point baskets, while Rutledge and Tyler Dunn each had a three-pointer. Keldrick Cox and Braylon Grayson each had a two-point shot, while Kuykendall added a free throw. Warren County took the 60-27 win.

The following evening, the Tigers were back at home, this time taking on the Red Boiling Springs Bulldogs. This game would have a much better outcome.

DeKalb jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter, putting 18 points on the board. Jenkins had a pair of two-point baskets and two free throw points, while Ramos had two two-pointers and one free throw. Jones had a two-pointer and a free throw, with Antoniak and Conner Close each with a two-point basket.

The Bulldogs were held to only eight points, giving the Tigers the 18-8 lead.

The Tigers caught fire in the second quarter, with Jenkins putting up six two-point baskets, while Jones had three two-pointers and a free throw. Young added a three-point shot as well.

Red Boiling Springs was held to only 10 points, giving the Tigers a 40-18 halftime lead.

Jones had a pair of two-point baskets for DeKalb in the third quarter, with Young coming away with a three-point shot. Antoniak added a couple of free throw points, while Curtis had one.

The Bulldogs only managed five points in the third, giving the Tigers a hefty lead, 50-23.

Jacob Hendrix had a pair of two-pointers and a three-point shot for the Tigers in the fourth quarter, while Andrew Tramel had a two-point basket. Close had a couple of free throw points.

Red Boiling Springs came away with 13 points, but it was way too little, way too late. The Tigers took an impressive 61-36 victory.

After a Covid-19 diagnosis later in the week, both the Tigers and Lady Tigers will miss two weeks of scheduled games due to being under quarantine.
