Tigers fall to Cannon, Central Magnet

The DCHS Tiger basketball team were edged out by Central Magnet in Murfreesboro last Tuesday in a 52-37 game.

 

While DeKalb outscored Central 14-6 in the first period, CM blasted back with a 14-point second period, holding the tigers to six. As a result DeKalb trailed 22-20 at the halftime buzzer.

 

Central ripped 18 more points in the third, while the Tigers again managed six. The fourth period began with CM holding a 40-26 lead.

 

DeKalb scored 11 points in the fourth, but Central Magnet put 12 on the board, and took the win.

 

Tanner Poss led the Tiger scorecard with 15 points. Trey Jones and Austin Johnson each rang in with seven.

 

Marshal Evins added four to the DeKalb score, while Colter Norris put in three and Noah Parsley scored one.

 

The Tigers were defeated 69-48 by the Cannon County Lions in in Woodbury Thursday night in the last game of the regular season.

 

Cannon County raced to an 18-6 lead at the end of the first period, and increased the margin to 37-15 at halftime. The score stood at 53-35 by the end of the third, and Cannon cruised to a 69-48 victory to close the season.

 

Austin Johnson led the DeKalb offense with 14 points. Tanner Poss followed with nine, and Trey Jones scored eight. Colter Norris put six in, Ethan Martin and Noah Parsley added four each, and Marshal Evins had three points in the game.

 

The Tigers wrapped up the regular season with a 13-19 overall record, and finished 1-13 in the district. Post-season play began for The Tigers when they met Cannon County last night at Hooper Elben Center on the Tennessee Tech campus in Cookeville in their first game of the District 8 AA Tournament.
