Tigers fall to Eagleville

The DCHS Tiger baseball team was defeated 5-3 in a March 16 makeup game against Eagleville in Smithville.

 

While DeKalb scored two runs in the first inning and added one more run in the seventh, Eagleville scored two runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh for the win. Losing pitcher Sam McMillen went the distance, giving up five runs on six hits. McMillen threw eight strikeouts and gave up two walks.

 

The Tigers scored three runs on five hits, and committed five errors in the game. Christian Pruitt put in two singles for DeKalb, while Lee Randolph, Steven Jennings and Seth Whaley added a single each.

 

DeKalb traveled to Lebanon High School on the afternoon of March 18, where they suffered a 6-2 loss. The team redeemed themselves with a 4-3 win over Eagleville later that evening.

 

On March 19 the Tigers faced Gordonsville in Lebanon, and lost 7-6. Later that day, DCHS lost a road game to Friendship Christian, 11-4.

 

Things brightened a bit for the Tigers when they took Central Magnet down 2-0 in the first district game of the season in Murfreesboro on March 21.

 

Winning pitcher Steven Jennings threw for seven innings and tossed a two-hit shutout. Jennings struck out 17 batters and gave up two bases on balls.

 

The Tigers scored two runs on nine hits, committing no errors in the game. Christian Pruitt blasted a triple for DeKalb, and Sam McMillen pounded two singles and a double.

 

Jennings dropped two singles in for the Tigers, while John Maynard, Seth Whaley and Josh Hembree-each singled.

 

A rematch with Central Magnet in Smithville on March 22 did not go as well for DeKalb, however. CM came out on top 11-0.

 

The Tigers had four hits and committed five errors in the contest. Lee Randolph contributed a double to the DeKalb effort, and Christian Pruitt, Jacob Self and Seth Whaley all singled.

 

Sam McMillen struck out three CM hitters and walked four in five and a third innings, giving up seven hits. Hunter Jennings took over on the mound for two thirds of an inning, giving up one hit.

 

The Tiger will travel to Warren County on March 31 to Face WCHS. The game will begin at 5 p.m.
