Tigers fall to Trousdale, split Cannon Classic

The Tigers started the week with an 88-62 loss at Trousdale County last Monday night.

 

Trey Jones topped DeKalb’s scoring effort with 19 points, and Tanner Poss followed with 10 points, hitting three three-point shots and a free throw. Gentry Harpole contributed eight points for DeKalb, Michael Elswick put in four, and Marshal Evins and Austin Johnson scored three each. Chandler Vincent added two for the Tigers.

 

DeKalb was outpaced 25-11 in the first period and 25-12 in the second, putting Trousdale ahead 50-23 at the half. Trousdale scored 25 more points in the third, while the Tigers answered with 22. DeKalb put 17 pints in in the fourth, holding Trousdale to 13, but it was not nearly enough to overcome the deficit at the final buzzer.

 

The Tigers then traveled to Woodbury to compete in the Cannon County Classic Thanksgiving tourney on Nov. 25-26, losing 80-68 to Greater Gwinnett on Friday, and beating Johnson County 65-52 on Saturday.

 

In the game against Greater Gwinnett, Poss scored 20 points, Evins put 19 in, and Harpole helped out with 13. Trey Jones scored eight, Colter Norris added four points, and Chandler Vincent scored two in the game.

 

The Tigers led 16-7 after the first period, and enjoyed a 37-29 advantage at the half. GG took the lead in the third, outscoring DeKalb 26-14 and going ahead 55-51. The game slipped away from the Tigers in the fourth period, when DeKalb was outscored 25-17, and the final score came out to 80-68.

 

DeKalb returned on Saturday to defeat Johnson County by 13 points.

 

The Tigers took a 13-9 lead into the second period, but trailed 31-27 at the half. DeKalb went back ahead 49-45 in the third, and held on to win the game 65-52.

 

Marshal Evins and Gentry Harpole put 16 points each up for the Tigers, while Chandler Vincent scored 11. Tanner Poss put in 10 points for the Tigers, Trey Jones scored six, and Colter Norris and Austin Johnson added three points each.

 

DeKalb faced Gordonsville in Smithville on Nov. 28 (more on this game next week), Will host Central Magnet Friday night, and will travel to Jamestown Tuesday to take on York Institute.
