The DeKalb County High School basketball Tigers’ season came to an end last Friday evening in the first round of the District Basketball Tournament in Sparta. The boys came out swinging in the first half of the game against the Warriors, but fell away in the second. The game was originally scheduled to have been played on Thursday, but was rescheduled for Friday due to severe weather moving through the area.

The Tigers would go up as much as 10 points in the first period, as the Warriors struggled to get going. Conner Close would sink three two-point baskets for DeKalb, while Robert Wheeler came away with two. Both Zack Birmingham and Elishah Ramos would have one two-point shot.

White County would come swinging back late in the first, putting 22 on the board and taking the 22-14 lead.

The game was a battle for both teams. The offense was strong for DeKalb in the second period, with Stetson Agee sinking a pair of three-point shots, while Close added a two-pointer, a three-pointer, and three free throw points. Ramos came away with a two-pointer and three free throws, while Ean Jones got on the board with a couple of free throw points.

The Warriors would match the Tigers point for point, with a flurry of long shots, including sinking five three-pointers. They would maintain the lead at halftime, 43-35.

The Tigers put 15 more points on the board in the third period, with Wheeler hitting three two-point baskets and a free throw, while Agee and Close each had a three-pointer. Ramos added a two-point shot.

Defensively, the Warriors became too much for DeKalb to handle. White County added 25 points to their tally, including another four long three-point shots. White was up, 68-50 at the end of three.

DeKalb would put up the most points of the game in the fourth period, adding 25 to the board. Wheeler sank five two-point baskets, while Agee added a pair of three-pointers, a couple of two-point shots, and two free throws. Ramos also had a three-point basket.

Again, White County would match DeKalb point for point, mostly from the free throw line. They put 25 on the scoreboard and claimed the 93-75 victory.

Agee and Wheeler were top of the scoreboard for DeKalb County, each with 21 points. Close came away with 17 points, while Ramos had 12. Jones and Birmingham each had two.
