Tigers lose to Cavs
WhiteDakota
Dakota White slashes through lane during action earlier this year against York. The Tigers fell in close tilts this past week against Watertown and Cookeville.

The Tiger basketball team’s losing skid is at six games after they were downed in Cookeville this past Saturday night, 77-65.

The Tigers season opened in promising fashion with wins over Van Buren and Pickett County but their fortunes have changed since that time, their most recent loss against a 3A opponent.

The Tigers found themselves in an early hole Saturday night as the Cavaliers took a 22-9 first quarter lead. They were down 19 by the half but were able to draw the deficit to 14 in the third. The Tigers actually made a run in the fourth, cutting their disadvantage to single digits before a late Cav run rested the advantage at 12 by the final buzzer. Lucas Hale had 19 while Dallas Cook had 18 in the loss.

Their loss to the Cavs comes after they fell to Purple Tigers in Watertown the game before, 67-60. They were 2-6 leading into their game Tuesday night against Livingston in Smithville. The Livingston game was set to replace the scheduled Warren County tilt Tuesday night. The original date to play Livingston was snowed out. The Warren County game will be reset for a later date.

As for Cookeville, the Tigers will get plenty of cracks at the Cavs as they are scheduled to face them in a Christmas tournament in Watertown and to play host to them next month. Coach John Sanders said it is important to play larger schools like Cookeville and Warren County in non-conference play to get ready for one conference play begins in earnest.

The Lady Tigers were able to get a big conference win at Watertown this past week, beating Watertown 47-28. Kadee Ferrell, just returning from injury, led the Lady Tigers with 10 in the district win. Their win came in come-from-behind fashion as they were actually down by three after one. However, a second quarter rally was all they needed as they never looked back.

Fortunes weren’t so kind going into Saturday night’s game against Cookeville as they fell 50-40 despite being so close they could almost touch victory against the Lady Cavs. Despite a seven point deficit at the half, the Lady Tigers were able to draw to 37-32 by the end of three. The Lady Cavs were able to hold on for the non-conference win. Mya Ruch led the Lady Tigers with 11 while Kadee Ferrell had 10 for the second straight game. DeKalb is 3-8 overall but 1-1 in the district.
