Tigers play tough games, get district wins

The DeKalb County High School Tigers Baseball Team has been in action over the past couple weeks, playing some tough teams and preparing district battles. The team faced some tough competition from some AAA teams, but has emerged 2-0 in the district.
On Mar. 15, the Tigers were on the road taking on Eagleville. DeKalb would have one run on four hits, with three errors, while Eagleville had three runs on seven hits, and two errors.
Sam McMillen pitched the whole game giving up three runs, no earned runs, with five strikeouts and no walks. Devin Summers went 2-3 with a RBI double in the 3rd inning. John Roller and Sam McMillen each had a single. Eagleville came away with the win, 3-1.
On Mar. 17-18 the Tigers traded games with York, the first district opponent of the season. In the first game, on the road, the Tigers came away with a big victory, 10-0, in five innings.
Steven Page pitched a complete game, giving up five hits with six strikeouts and no walks. Steven Jennings was 2-3 with two RBIs, while Aaron Patterson was 2-4 with two RBIs. Devin Summers was 0-2 with a RBI, Sam McMillen was 1-1 with a RBI, and John Roller, Steven Page, and George Roller were each 1-3.
The following day, the Tigers were at home again facing York. Devin Summers pitched a complete game giving up three hits, with 13 strikeouts and no walks. Steven Jennings led off the game with a solo homerun, down the left field line. He was 1-3 on the night. Aaron Patterson was 1-3, while Jacob Self was 1-2. The Tigers got the win, 1-0.
The Tigers made no errors in the two-game series.
On Mar. 20-22, the team participated in the Wilson County Invitational where they faced some stiff competition.
In the first game, the Tigers took on Friendship Christian and came away with a 4-3 victory. John Roller went six 1/3 to pick up the win giving up eight hits with one walk. Steven Jennings picked up the save coming in, with the bases loaded and one out, striking out the next hitter and then getting a ground out to third.
Steven Jennings was 3-4 with a double and one run scored, while Devin summers was 1-3 with a solo home run in the first inning. Luke Boss was1-3 with a double, and A.J. Mooneyham went 1-2, scoring two runs.
The victory celebration would be short-lived however, as DeKalb battled some tough competition through the rest of the invitational.
In a game with White House, the Tigers would get a hard loss, 8-1.
Sam Mcmillen was the losing pitcher, while Steven Jennings hit 2-4, with a double and one run scored. Devin Summers had a sacrifice fly RBI for the Tigers only run which was scored in the first inning, Luke Boss was 1-2.
White House had eight runs, on eight hits and one error. DeKalb had one run, with three hits and three errors.
In a game with Hendersonville, DeKalb came away with another loss, 7-1. Hendersonville had six hits and three errors, while the Tigers had three hits and three errors.
Mooneyham was the losing pitcher, giving up six hits, and only three earned runs, with three walks. "He pitched real well against a very good AAA team," Head Coach Tracy Slone said.
Patterson and Summers were each 1-4, while McMillen was 1-3 with a double.
The Tigers had a close game with Lebanon, but still fell 5-4. According to Coach Slone, the Tigers were up 4-2 going into the bottom of the seventh inning, when they gave up three runs.
Steven Jennings went the distance on the mound, giving up five runs on eight hits. He had five strikeouts and four walks.
On offense, Jennings was 1-4, while Page was 1-2 with a RBI Single. Freshman Jacob Self was 1-3, with a double driving in two runs. DeKalb made three errors to Lebanon's one.
The Tigers have a record of 4-4, and 2-0 in district.
