The Tigers took on the York Institute Dragons Thursday night and walked away with another huge district win by a score of 69-56.
In the first quarter, barely a minute into the action, Braxton Atnip dropped in the first basket. Stephen Howell led the Tigers in scoring in the first period with seven points as DeKalb outscored the York Dragons 24-10.
Though it was still early in the game, the game was highlighted by what would even be an ESPN Top Ten play nominee. Sonni Young jumped up for a missed basket and rocked the rim as he jammed it in with a huge put-back dunk for two points as the crowd erupted.
In the second quarter, York was threatening a comeback, outscoring  the Tigers 12-15. Eli Lomas caught fire during the second period of play leading the team by scoring eight points.
In the third quarter, the Tigers took back the momentum as they outscored the Dragons 16-10. Braxton Atnip led the way  dropping a team-best six points in the period.
In the fourth quarter, the Dragons made a statement  outscoring the Tigers 21-13.
Sonni Young scored six points in the final period of play to lead his team. But the Dragons’ snarl was far too muffled by the Tigers’ roar for a comeback as the Dragons fell slain.

The Tigers were led in scoring by Sonni Young as he tacked in 17. Lucas Phillips, Braxton Atnip, and Stephen Howell all contributed 12. Eli Lomas tossed in eight. Will Molander scored five while Braxton Howell finished with one.
The Tigers also traveled to the Central Magnet Tigers of Murfreesboro on Friday night, easily defeating  them 65-28.
In the first quarter, DeKalb County ran all over Central Magnet outscoring them by a substantial margin of 28-9.
DeKalb’s offense was near perfect as they had seven different players score. Ethan Roller led the team with seven points.
In the second quarter, with such a commanding lead and a clearly better team than Central Magnet, Coach Martin gave the go-ahead for the junior varsity squad to come in the game. Even with  mostly underclassmen on the floor, DeKalb still outscored their opponents, 21-5. Again DeKalb showed its flawless team play as for a second straight quarter seven different players had scored.
In the third quarter, with the score almost certainly out of reach for Central Magnet, Coach Martin had an all-freshman team on the floor giving the starters a very well deserved rest.
The freshmen for DeKalb showed that they could hold their own, outscoring the starters for Central Magnet 14-9. Aaron Patterson led the team with five, third quarter points.
In the fourth quarter, DeKalb’s freshman team also showed that they were still freshmen,  managing only one single basket. Central Magnet finally outscored DeKalb in the final period of play 5-2.

The Tiger win gives them an impressive district overall of 8-2.
The Tigers were led in scoring by Ethan Roller who tossed in nine. Will Molander followed with eight. Stephen Howell, Lucas Phillips, Aaron Patterson, and Braxton Atnip all added seven points each. Sonni Young contributed six. Zach Vincent scored five, while Eli Lomas added three. Dylan Young, Jordan Taylor, and Austin Frazier all had two.
The Tigers  impresive finish to the season gives them a birth in the District play-offs, being the number  two seed they will face the last place team, a team they defeated twice this season the Central Magnet Tigers.
