Tigers record another loss
Jordan Young
Jordan Young pulls up for a short range jumper as DeKalb County led Watertown early in their district tilt Friday night. A 20-2 run by the Purple Tigers turned the close game into a blow out in the fourth quarter.

A 20-2 run in the fourth quarter doomed the DeKalb County Tigers, dropping them to their fourth straight loss after they played shot-for-shot with Watertown Friday night in Smithville until something broke early in the final frame to nail the final at 64-48.

The Tigers had evened the count at 39 leading into the fourth quarter after staying with the Purple Tigers from Watertown the entire game in a see-saw battle. However, something shut off at the six minute mark of the fourth as the Tigers were only able to register a single basket for nearly five minutes while Watertown went on a scoring spree, turning the nail biter into a run-away district victory which dropped the Tigers to 3-6 in the district and 6-16 overall. The loss also made it a sweep for Watertown as the Purple Tigers won on their home court earlier this season, 67-60.

DeKalb found itself on top after one, leading 16-15 after the opening stanza as Dallas Cook got going early on his way to leading his squad with 16 on the night. The Tigers had a shot to take the lead into the locker room but a last second bomb fell short as to trailed 26-24 at the half.

The second saw a major back-and-forth between the squads with Evans Jones coming alive as he went for 12 on the evening. The result was a 39-36 deficit going into the fourth. However, an early DeKalb three-pointer knotted the contest at 39-39 with Jordan Young making his presence known as he had a dozen on the night.

However, that three would prove to be the last time the Tigers would see the ball go through the net for them for several minutes as a series of turnovers and bad shots allowed Watertown to seize control of the game.

The loss was the third of the week for the Tigers as Warren County completed a season sweep of DeKalb, beating them in McMinnville 63-42 in non-district action. The Pioneers won their earlier meeting in Smithville, 72-59.

The second loss of the week came against Livingston Academy as the district foes won on their home court, 68-52, avenging an earlier loss in Smithville. Livingston was aided by the fact four Tigers missed that game with illness, leaving DeKalb short-handed.

The Tigers go forward Tuesday against Cannon County before playing Upperman on Senior Night Friday.
