The Tiger baseball squad has struck it rich over the past couple of weeks, winning its last five of six contests, setting the team at an 11-9 mark as the district tournament looms on the horizon.

The winning streak, which includes two district wins, was highlighted by a 12-0 dousing of the York Institute Dragons on their diamond.
Hunter Jennings didn’t allow a run to cross the plate, getting the complete game win with four strike outs on his way to pitching a two-hitter. Meanwhile Paxton Butler went one-for-three with the bat but the one hit was a homerun put over the fence in the second inning. His round-tripper opened the flood gates as the Tigers posted four runs in the second inning. A single run in the third scored on a solo shot by Logan Cornelius was followed up by five in the fourth.

The win over York followed DeKalb's district victory over Livingston Academy by a count of 8-2. It was all about the fifth inning for the Tigers as they scored seven runs during the single frame. They had led since the third inning thanks to a single run in the third. Skyler Sparks led the team in hitting, going two-for-three at the plate and accounting for two RBIs. John Maynard matched him with two RBIs of his own. The game ended due to the run rule after five innings.

The Tigers' only loss during the streak came during a trip to Lebanon April 19 where they fell to the Blue Devils by a count of 8-4. The Tigers actually led 4-3 going into the bottom of the fifth but Lebanon broke out for four runs that inning and never looked back.

In the weekend contest, the Tigers beat Monterey in a pitchers’ duel, knocking them off 3-1. Daniel Puckett went four innings for the Tigers, striking out four while John Maynard came in as relief and fanned one. The Tigers won thanks to two runs in the first inning. They were outhit five to three by Monterey.

The Tigers were set to return to the diamond Tuesday night to host Macon County. They will then be on the road Thursday night at Grundy County and at Gordonsville Monday.
