The DCHS Tiger basketball team lost the first round of the District 8 AA Basketball Tournament in an overtime nailbiter that saw DeKalb eliminated from the tourney in a 50-48 loss.

The game, played at Hooper-Eblen Center on the Tennessee Tech campus in Cookeville was a wallbanger, with DeKalb edging out a 13-11 lead at the end of the first, and Smith coming back to take the lead 24-21 at the half. DeKalb again held a two-point advantage at the end of the third, 34-32, but a fourth-period battle ended with the score tied at 40 points each.

Cannon County slipped by the Tigers in a 10-8 overtime period, however, to take the win by two.

Marshal Evins led the Tiger offense with 19 points. Tanner Poss and Colter Norris scored seven points each, and Austin Johnson added six. Noah Parsley put in five points and Trey Jones rounded out the Tiger scorecard with four.

The Tigers’ season ends with a 13-20 record.
