The DeKalb County High School football team traveled to Nashville Friday and Saturday to play in the 2012 Music City Classic 7 on 7 Passing Tournament, hosted by Vanderbilt University.
The 7 on 7 passing tournament is a contest in which there are no offensive and defensive linemen. The offense can only pass the football, and there is no tackling allowed.
The Tigers came away with a top-five finish in the tournament due to severe weather in the Nashville area. At the end of the third session on Saturday the powers that be decided to cancel the contest.
However, the Tigers, with a 6-2 overall record for the tournament, played well enough to allow Head Coach Steve Trapp and his staff to see their passing game in action for the first time since spring.
“The 7 on 7 is perfect for us because we throw alot. When   we are playing on Friday nights these are the types of experiences that our passing game can draw from.” Trapp noted.
The 2012 tournament fielded 32 teams from across the Tennessee area, as well as twelve other states.
Winners of the annual tournament are invited to participate in the National Championship Tournament held in Hoover, Alabama.
Each team plays three sessions with three opponents in each session. At the end of the third session, the top four teams play an additional session in a single elimination format to determine the champion.
In the first session, the Tigers looked to be in mid-season form as they rolled past Kenton High School White from Kenton, Ohio.
Next up for the DCHS team was Gallatin High School.
The Green Wave was no match for the Tigers as, once again, the high flying Tigers were right on target.
In the final game of the first session, the Tigers maintained their pace and came away with another victory against Model High School from Rome, Georgia.
In the second session, the Tigers won two games against East Literature and Wynne with one loss to the 2010 Music City Classic Champions, Kenton High School Red.
On Saturday, the Tigers made the long trek back to the Vanderbilt campus. After a long rain delay the Tigers first opponent was once again Kenton High Red.
After losing the day before, the Tigers looked to atone for the loss. However, the powerhouse from Kenton, Ohio handed the Tigers their second loss of the tournament.
Next up for Dekalb County was the team from Rochester, Illinois, Rochester High School. The Tigers, needing to regroup, did just that as they were able to come away with a victory.
As the third game  against Madison-Ridgeland Academy began the storms moved into the Nashville area.
