The lights were on at the newly named Kleparek Field last week as the DeKalb County High School Tigers soccer team opened up their season with a big win against White County. The boys came away with a shutout against the border rival team.

On Tuesday, March 15, the boys hosted the Warriors in front of the hometown crowd. Yair Mata put the Tigers on the board first, with an assist by Adan Ramirez, at four minutes into play. Miguel Mata would come away with a goal of his own 16 minutes in, with an assist by Jonathon Zavala.

Yair Mata would strike again 34 minutes in, with an assist by Zavala, then again just one minute later, with an assist by Miguel Mata. Zavala would get his own goal 38 minutes into play, with a free kick. At halftime, the Tigers were up, 5-0.

The Tigers kept rolling in the second half, with Miguel Mata getting a goal two minutes in, with Cooper Brown assisting. He would strike again nine minutes in, with an assist by Ryder Miller. Miller would get in on the act at the 12 minute mark, with an assist by Erick Hernandez, then Xavier Parker would seal the game with a goal at 27 minutes with an assist by Ramirez.

The mercy rule came into effect, giving the Tigers the 9-0 victory. Goalie Conner Vance had two saves in the game.
