Soccer Ball

The DeKalb County High School Tigers soccer team was on the road last week, but put some big wins on the books. The team took on Livingston Academy and Stone Memorial.

On Tuesday, April 27, the Tigers were on the road in Livingston where they faced off against the Wildcats. It would be tough going for both teams in the first half, with neither team finding the back of the goal.

In the second half, the Tigers opened things up. Miguel Mata put the first point of the game on the board, with an assist by Yair Mata, with 38 minutes left in the game. Then, just four minutes later, Yair got a goal of his own.

The Mata melee continued with 28 minutes to play, with Yair once again striking with an assist by Miguel, then the duo would repeat with 13 minutes left on the clock.

Livingston managed to avoid the shutout with a goal, with 24 minutes on the clock, but the Tigers took the 4-1 victory.

Luke Jenkins had 28 saves in the match.

The following Friday the Tigers were again on the road, this time in the high country at Stone Memorial. It would be another good day for DeKalb.

Jasper Kleparek struck first with an assist by Brandon Silva, with 36 minutes left in the first half, then Miguel Mata found the net just four minutes later, with an assist by Yair mata.

It was Cameron Millers’ turn with 32 minutes left in the first, with another assist by Yair Mata, then the two would trade places two minutes later with Mata finding the net. Brian Balderas struck with 10 minutes left in the first half, aided by Miguel Mata.

Stone Memorial got on the board with a goal just two minutes before the end of the half, then another one minute later. The Tigers held a 5-2 lead at the half.

The Dynamic Duo, known as the Matas, put points on the board for the Tigers in the second half. First, Miguel found the net with an assist by Yair with 30 minutes left to play, then Yair scored with an assist by Miguel with 17 minutes on the clock. The pair struck again with eight minutes left to play, Yair getting the goal with Miguel assisting.

Stone Memorial put two more points on the board, with goals at 26 minutes and at four minutes, but it was far from enough to fend off the Tiger onslaught. DeKalb took the 8-4 victory.

Luke Jenkins had 15 saves in the game.
