The DeKalb County High School Tigers Soccer team had only one game on the schedule last week, on the road against Lebanon High School. It would be a hard-fought game by both teams and would be decided in the final minute.
DeKalb started the scoring with a great pass by Jonathan Hernandez that found Yair Mata breaking to the goal. Yair drove hard into the goal area and then lifted a cross in front of forward Miguel Mata, who headed the ball into Lebanon's diving goalkeeper. The rebound fell back in the path of Yair, who put the ball into the net for the first goal of the game at 32 minutes left in the first half.
DeKalb came out in the second half with the majority of the possession, but Lebanon got on the scoreboard with a well executed corner kick at 36 minutes left in the game.
The game continued with several opportunities for both teams. Then, in the final minute of the game, Lebanon played a pass to the back side leading sophomore Sean Redmond in on goal where he slipped one passed the diving DeKalb goalkeeper Luke Jenkins.
Lebanon took the 2-1 win.
Jenkins finished with nine saves on the night.
DeKalb's next match is April 6, at home against Upperman. The game begins at 5:00 PM.
