The DeKalb County High School Tigers soccer team split their games last week, getting a big win on the road to start the week, then falling against a powerhouse team at home.
On Tuesday, April 20, the Tigers were on the road, facing the Upperman Bees. It would be a tough match with the game being decided in overtime.
The Tigers got on the board first, with Jasper Kleparek finding the net, with an assist by Brandon Silva, with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Upperman countered just five minutes later with a goal of their own, then took the lead with a goal with four minutes left in the half. The Bees were up at the half, 2-1.
Things didn't look good for the Tigers as the second half wound down. Then, with one minute left in regular play, Cooper Brown struck with an assist by Silva. At the end of regulation, the game was tied, 2-2.
In overtime play, once again Silva was there. He got a goal with two minutes left, with an assist by Miguel Mata. The Tigers took the 3-1 win.
Luke Jenkins had 15 saves in the game.
The following Thursday, the Tigers were at home and would not be as fortunate as they took on the top team in the district, Cumberland County.
It would be all Cumberland in the game, with the team taking four goals, with four assists, in the first half, then two more goals, with one assist, in the second. The game would end with a 6-0 Cumberland victory.
