The DeKalb County High School Tigers soccer team came away with a couple of wins last week, beating both Cannon County and Stone Memorial.

On Monday, April 11, the Tigers traveled to Woodbury to face off against the Lions. DeKalb would dominated the game with a shutout.

Yair Mata got DeKalb on the board at eight minutes into the first half, then again at 13 minutes, both with assists by Miquel Mata.

Aiden Malone would come away with a goal at 26 minutes, aided by Leo Delgado, then Miguel Mata would get his own goal, followed by another by Yair before the half would end. DeKalb was up 5-0.

Cameron Miller would score a goal 17 minutes into the second half, assisted by Miguel Mata, then Miguel got his own at 23 minutes. Cooper Brown to cap the winning score with a goal at 28 minutes, giving DeKalb an 8-0 shutout.

Conner Vance had four saves in the game, while Axel Aranda had two.

On Thursday, April 14, the Tigers would be on their home field, this time facing a tough Stone Memorial team. The Panthers would make the Tiger’s night a tough one, but DeKalb would come out on top.

The Panthers would get on the board first with a goal four minutes in, but the Tigers would counter with a goal by Miguel Mata at 11 minutes, assisted by Cameron Miller.

Stone Memorial would retake the lead at 22 minutes, and another just two minutes later.

Miguel Mata would add another goal for the Tigers at 25 minutes, then another with an assist by Cooper Brown two minutes later.

The Panthers would score one more before the half would end, giving Stone Memorial the 4-3 lead.

Stone Memorial would strike again in the second half, going up 5-3, but DeKalb was far from done. Miller hit the net at 54 minutes, with an assist by Yair Mata, then Yair scored a goal with an assist by Jonathon Zavala, tying the match 5-5 and sending it into overtime. It would be Yair that would score the winning goal, giving DeKalb the hard-fought 6-5 victory.

Conner Vance and Axel Aranda each had six saves in the game.
