The DeKalb County High School Tigers were on their home field on Monday, April 22, hosting Senior Night as they took on the visiting Cumberland County Jets. Cumberland would go on to win the game 5-3, but DeKalb would get some revenge the following night.

During a ceremony, senior Tiger players Carson Donnell, Cam Caballero, Brayden Carter, Westin Wright, Braxton Cantrell and Konner Young were recognized for their time on the team.

While Monday’s game resulted in a loss, the Tigers would bounce right back the following night in a rematch at Cumberland County. DeKalb would take the lead in the first inning and never look back, nearly getting a shutout.

Konner Young started the game with a single line drive to left, followed by a walk by Ty Webb. Later, Westin Wright singled on a hard grounder to right, sending Young home. The Tigers were up, 1-0.

DeKalb added another run at the top of the third, after a double line drive to left by Dalla Kirby, then coming home after Wright singled on a hard grounder to left. DeKalb was up 2-0.

The Tigers piled on the lead at the top of the fourth, with 11 more runs. Braxton Cantrell singled on a grounder to left, followed by a single bunt by Ty Webb as Cantrell scored on the throw.  Konner Young would walk, then Tucker Webb reached on a grounder and an error at third, as Ty scored. Brayden Carter then hit a hard grounder and reached on an error by first as Tucker Webb scored.

Kirby would get a walk, then Wright doubled on a line drive to center sending Carter and Kirby home. Evan Prichard would take an HBP, then Carson Donnell reached on a hard grounder and an error at short. Wright stole his way home, then Braxton Cantrell singled on a hard grounder to left as Andrew Dakas, running for Prichard, scored.

Ty Webb was out on a sacrifice fly to left, but Donnell touched the plate, and later Tucker Webb doubled on a fly to center as Cantrell scored. Brayden Carter took an HBP, then Webb scored on a wild pitch as Kirby was back at the plate. The Tigers were up 13-0.

The Jets would manage to score one run at the bottom of the fourth, but DeKalb would pretty much seal the game shut at the top of the fifth. Wright, Donnell, and Cantrell would each get on with a single, then Ty Webb doubled on a hard grounder to left as Wright and Donnell each came home. Cantrell would score on a wild pitch as Young was up to bat, then Young singled on an error by the pitcher as Tucker Webb scored, then Ty Webb singled on a line drive to right sending Young across the plate.

Carter would single on a grounder to left, Dakas got a walk, followed by a walk for Caballero, as Ben Driver, running for Webb, scored. Another walk for Luke Johnson sent Carter home. Cumberland would get out of the inning, but the damage was done. The Tigers were up 20-1.

The Jets would have one last at bat, but DeKalb held on for the impressive 20-1 victory. Prichard earned the win, giving up four hits and one run over five innings, striking out one and walking five.

The following Thursday, the Tigers were back in action, this time traveling to Watertown to face the Purple Tigers. Watertown went up early and DeKalb would never recover.

Watertown scored first, hitting a two-run double at the bottom of the first inning. They would score three more at the bottom of the second, then four at the bottom of the third, going up 9-0.

DeKalb finally got moving at the top of the fourth, after a double line drive to center by Young. Ty Webb then singled on a line drive to center, then Young would score on a wild pitch as Carter was at the plate. Wright later singled on a hard grounder to center as Webb scored. The Tigers were on the board 9-2.

The Tigers cut into the lead again at the top of the fifth after Cantrell singled on a line drive to center, followed by a walk for Webb. Young would single on a line drive to center as Cantrell scored, then Young scored after Carter reached on a grounder and an error at short. Watertown was still ahead, 9-4. It would be the last runs DeKalb would see.

Watertown scored two more runs in the fifth, then three in the sixth. They would go on to claim the 14-4 win.

Kirby pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief, giving up seven hits and five runs, striking out one and walking two. Donnell took the loss, going two innings, with nine runs on six hits, striking out one and walking two.
