The DeKalb County Tiger baseball team split a home and away with Cannon County, nipping them by a run on their home diamond while falling by a single run in Woodbury.
Cannon did all their damage during their
visit to Smithville this past week in the third inning, where they scored all
three of their runs in their 4-3 loss to the Tigers. The DeKalb squad jumped
out to a 3-0 lead going into the third and were able to avoid even more damage
by pitching their way out of a bases-loaded situation. Cody Antoniak worked the
hill for four innings, fanning five Lions while surrendering eight hits and
four bases on balls. He gave up all three Cannon runs. Avery South worked three
innings, striking out five, giving up one run and two free trips by walks.
Grayson Redmon led the Tigers in hitting, going a perfect two-for-two with the stick. Luke Oliver, Redmon, Logan Cornelius and Daniel Pucket were all credited with an RBI. Skyler Sparks swiped the lone base stolen against the Lions.
Scoring ceased after the bottom of the third as the game turned into a pitcher’s duel as Sparks worked his way into the final run of the evening after leading off the inning with a single.
The win was immediate payback for the Lions stealing a victory in Woodbury the night before after they scored in the sixth inning for the win. The game saw the lion’s share of runs come in the second as both clubs scored four. Derek Young led the Tigers in hitting, going two-for-three while Grayson Redmon produced half of DeKalb’s runs as he was credited with knocking in two runs. Daniel Pucket ruled the basepaths with two stolen bases.
From the hill, Colter Norris worked four innings, giving up four hits, one earned run and three bases on balls while fanning five. Grayson Redmon put in two innings of work, fanning three while giving up no hits.
