The DeKalb County High School Tigers Baseball Team managed to play two games last week, with another game being cancelled due to weather. The games against Cannon County were a draw, with each team coming away with a district win.
On Mar. 24, the Tigers traveled to Cannon County, where they faced the Lions in the first of a two game series with the district rival Lions. The first game would end for the Tigers with the first district loss of the season, 5-4.
On Mar. 26, the second game was played after being delayed a day by rain and cold weather. This time the results would be in DeKalb’s favor, with the team taking a win, 4-1.
Winning pitcher Devin Summers went the distance in the game, giving up four hits, striking out nine, and walking one. The Tigers had four runs, on seven hits, and one error, while Cannon had one run, on four hits, and one error.
On offense Steven Jennings was 2-4, while Aaron Patterson and Luke Boss were each 1-3. Summers was 2-3, with an RBI double in the third inning, while Sam McMillen was 0-1 with a squeeze bunt RBI in the third, and an RBI bases loaded walk in the fifth. Nick Parsley was 1-3 with a RBI single in the fifth.
On Mar. 31, the Tigers traveled to Smith County where they took on the Owls in yet another district match. The game would see only one run, with DeKalb coming away with its second district defeat.
Smith County’s Seth Tackett had 12 strikeout in the game, and gave up two hits, while Steven Jennings went the distance, giving up six hits and no earned runs.
DeKalb got two hits in the first inning as Aaron Patterson and Devin Summers each had a single, which was the only two hits of the game. Smith took the win, 1-0.
The Tigers are 5-6, and 3-2 in district play.
