The Tiger baseball team wound up the regular season with two wins against the Upperman Bees last week.
DeKalb traveled to Baxter on April 29, and took the bees in a 4-2 game.
Winning pitcher John Maynard threw for five innings, allowing only one run on three hits. He struck out eight Bees. Steven Jennings finished up, pitching two innings and giving up no hits, although Upperman scored a run on a sacrifice play.
The Tigers scored three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, while the Bees put one across in the fifth and one in the sixth. DeKalb scored four runs on eight hits.
Lee Randolph went three-for-three at the plate hammering two singles and a triple, and batting in one run for the Tigers. Logan Cornelius hit two singles for two RBIs, while Jacob Self, Colter Norris and Christian Pruitt hit a single each.
The Bees came to Smithville on May 1 only to take another beating, this time 5-1.
Both teams battled for four innings without scoring until the Tigers finally took the lead with a two-run fifth inning on a Bee error. DeKalb followed the performance with three more runs in the sixth, when Christian Pruitt lifted a three run homer out of the park. Upperman scored their lone run in the seventh.
Winning pitcher Hunter Jennings came in for the final two-and-two-thirds innings of the game, allowing one run, two hits, striking out two, and walking zero. Starter Steven Jennings pitched four and a third innings, giving up no runs on two hits, striking out nine Bees, and walking one.
DeKalb Scored five runs on six hits. Pruitt led the Tiger offense with a single, a home run, and three RBIs. John Maynard hit a double, and Brady Hughes, Grayson Redmon and Jacob Self contributed singles for DeKalb.
The Tigers were to begin district tournament action on Friday, but rain-outs pushed the date back to Monday, when they faced Livingston Academy in Carthage in the first round. More on the district tourney in next week’s Review.
