The DCHS basketball Tigers defeated Boyd Christian on the road on Jan. 5 in a 68-64 game.
DeKalb had a slow first half, allowing Boyd to outpace them 17-14 in the first and 18-17 in the second. The Tigers trailed 35-31 at halftime.
After coming out on top of a 15-5 third period, DeKalb held a 46-40 lead at the beginning of the fourth. Maintaining their momentum, the Tigers outscored Boyd 22-14 in the final period, giving DCHS a four-point lead at the final buzzer.
Marshal Evins led the DeKalb offense with 24 points, dropping in five three-pointers. Tanner Poss scored 20 points, sinking three three-point shots.
Gentry Harpole put in 11 points, and Austin Johnson scored six. Colter Norris hit a three-pointer, and Noah Parsley and Trey Jones added two points each.
The trip to Smith County on Jan. 11 was not so kind to the Tigers, however. The Owls handed DeKalb a 48-35 loss.
Smith County led a 16-9 first period, then outscored DeKalb 13-9 in the second to ensure a 29-18 lead at halftime for the Owls. A 14-6 third period in Smith’s favor did not help DeKalb’s cause.
Trailing 43-24 at the beginning of the fourth, DeKalb outscored Smith 10-3 in the final period, but it was not nearly enough to overcome the deficit, and the Tigers took a 13-point loss
Harpole led the Tiger offense with 10 points. Evins scored eight, and Norris put in seven. Parsley contributed four points, Poss three, and Johnson scored two for DeKalb.
Central Magnet also gave the Tigers a 36-29 beating after a fourth-period rally in Smithville Friday night.
While DeKalb County led 10-7 at the end of the first period, 17-10 at halftime, and 28-23 after the third period, CM broke loose and outscored the Tigers 13-1 in the fourth period, taking the game by seven points.
Harpole led the offense for DeKalb with 11 points. Poss scored seven in the game, while Evins added six, Johnson three, and Parsley two.
DeKalb County faced Cannon County Tuesday night at home, and will host Upperman on Jan 22. More on these games in next week’s Review.
