The Tiger basketball team put a 67-41 beating on district rival Smith County Monday night.

 

The Owlettes took the Lady Tigers down 54-48 in a tight game.

 

The Tigers squeaked by the Owls 13-12 in the first period of play, but extended their lead to 27-21 by halftime. DeKalb pulled out to a 50-32 advantage by the end of the third, and continued to dominate the game, winning by 26 points.

 

Trey Jones led the DeKalb offense with 19 points, while Marshal Evins followed closely with 14. Gentry Harpole put 10 in for the Tigers, Tanner Poss contributed eight, and Colter Norris scored six. Austin Johnson, Bradley Miller, Michael Elswick, Ethan Cantrell, and Dallas Cook added two points each to the score.

 

The Owlettes led the Lady Tigers 13-8 after the first period, but DeKalb charged back to take a 21-18 led before the half. A third period battle saw Smith County with a 32-27 lead at the end of the third period, and despite the Lady tigers best efforts, Smith held a 54-48 advantage at the final buzzer.

 

Hannah Panter led the Lady Tigers with 14 points in the game, while Lydia Brown put 13 in. Emme Colwell scored 12 points, and Macy Hedge and Madison Parsley had three each. Mya Ruch hit for two points, and Megan Walker added a point to the DeKalb total.

 

The Tigers and Lady Tigers host Macon County on Senior Night Thursday. Tipoff for the Ladies is at 6 p.m., with the Tigers’ game following. The regular season winds up Friday night, when the Tigers DeKalb travels to Warren County to face the Pioneers, and district tourney action will begin next week at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville.
