The DeKalb County Tigers faced down the York Dragons Friday night in the first district game of the season and came out on top, 53-42.York outscored the Tigers 14-7 in the first period of play, but were steamrolled by the DeKalb squad in the second, answering the Tigers 14-point period with only five of their own, sending the teams to the locker room at half-time with a 21-19 DeKalb lead.The Tigers outgunned the Dragons 19-8, and led 40-27 when the third period ended.York kept the fourth quarter exciting, scoring 15 points while the Tigers managed to answer with only 13.It was too little, too late to change the outcome, however, and DeKalb took the contest by a score of 53-42.Sonni Young dropped 19 points on the Dragon defense to assist the Tigers to victory, while Ethan Roller banged out 11.Braxton Atnip scored nine points for DeKalb, Stephen Howell put in eight, Will Molander contributed three, Andrew Atnip had two and Lucas Phillips scored one for the Tiger effort.The Tigers also took down Webb Boarding School Tuesday night, administering a 55-21 beating to the team from Bell Buckle.DeKalb enjoyed a 16-5 lead after the first period and outscored Webb 20-6 in the second, giving the Tigers a 36-11 halftime advantage.The DCHS squad dominated the third period as well, putting 13 points on the board while Webb scored four.The Tigers went into the fourth period with a 49-15 advantage and easily cruised to a 55-21 win, allowing Webb to tie the DeKalb scoring effort for the period, 6-6.Sonni Young led the Tiger scorecard on Tuesday as well, registering 14 points for DeKalb.Stephen Howell followed closely with 11 points on the night, while Braxton Howell scored seven and Braxton Atnip put in six.Ethan Roller and Eli Lomas each rang in with three points, Aaron Patterson, Justin Bone, Zach Vincent, Andrew Atnip, and Lucas Phillips each scored two, and Will Molander put one point on the books. DeKalb County will host Livingston Academy in the second district match-up of the season on Dec. 6 at the DCHS gymnasium.The Lady Tigers game tips off at 6 p.m.
