The DeKalb County Tiger baseball squad took Cannon County down 13 to 5 in Woodbury on April 25, then defeated the Lions 17-1 on Tuesday.

 

John Maynard spent seven innings on the mound last Monday, striking out eight Lions and walking one. The Tigers committed 4 errors in the game.

 

DeKalb scored 13 runs on 14 hits, with Sam McMillen ripping a single, a double and a homerun. Steven Jennings and John Maynard hit a single and double each. Josh Hembree and Christian Pruitt both hammered doubles.

 

Jacob Self slapped three singles, and Lee Randolph put in two one-baggers for the Tigers.

 

Cannon visited Smithville on April 26, only to have DeKalb welcome them with an even worse thrashing.

 

The Tigers pounded the Lions in the Tuesday game, scoring 17 runs on 18 hits, and allowing Cannon to score only one run in the contest. Sam McMillen gave up two hits and struck out five Lions in his three innings on the mound. Logan Cornelius came in for the last two innings, giving up one run and one hit.

 

McMillen also helped out on offense, belting a single and a home run for the Tigers. Christian Pruitt swung the bat for two singles and a double, and Steven Jennings put in a single and a triple.

 

Derek Young smacked a double, Jacob Self swatted three singles, and Colter Norris helped out with two singles. Lee Randolph, Josh Hembree, Grayson Redmon, Garrett Driver and Brady Hughes all added singles to the Tiger scorebook.

 

The Tigers kept the momentum going with a 12-1 win over Watertown in Smithville on April 29.

 

Pitcher Hunter Jennings held the Purple Tigers to one run on seven hits in the game, striking out two and walking two.

 

DeKalb scored 12 runs on nine hits. Josh Hembree belted a single and a double for the Tigers, and John Maynard and Sam McMillen put in two singles each. Steven Jennings, Lee Randolph and Colter Norris added a single each.

 

A final double-header against Livingston Academy was scheduled for May 2 to end the regular season for the Tigers. Prior to those games DeKalb was ranked third in district 8-AA.

 

The Tigers will begin district tournament action Friday. The location will depend on the outcome of this week’s games.
