After winning the season's final four games in just five days, the DCHS Tigers' basketball team tied the school record for total wins in a season with 27.
DeKalb started the week with a 59-48 win at Cannon County Feb. 6 that secured the District 8-AA regular season championship for the Tigers.
The Tigers allowed the Lions to hang-around in the first period as it ended with DeKalb leading 15-11.
However, the second period saw the Tigers' defense defuse Cannon's offense, allowing only six points as DeKalb extended their lead at halftime to 28-17.
Lucas Phillips scored eight points as the Tigers padded their lead to 17 points with the score 48-31 to end the third period.
In the final period, the Lions outscored DeKalb 17-11, but the Tiger lead was too much for them as Cannon County fell 59-48.
Sonni Fullilove led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points, followed by Lucas Phillips who recorded 14. Braxton Atnip tossed in 13 points. Ethan Roller contributed six points with Eli Lomas tallying three. Will Molander added two.
Hosting the Chattanooga Patriots Thursday night, the Tigers bid farewell to six seniors with style as DeKalb sliced the visitors 61-42.
Sonni Fullilove scored 10 first-period points to help pace the Tigers to a 30-11 lead.
The bombs were flying as the Tigers hit five three-pointers during the first period.
Braxton Atnip led the way for DeKalb, scoring nine during the second period to extend the Tigers' lead to 24 points with the score 45-21 at the halftime break.
The third period saw the Patriots outscore the Tigers 21-16 to bring the score to 61-42 as the buzzer sounded.
Bouncing back, the Tigers' offense once again outscored the Patriots 24-18 in the last period to put the score at the final 85-60.
Braxton Atnip led the Tigers in scoring with 27 points. Sonni Fullilove followed with 22 points and Ethan Roller posted 13.
Zach Vincent had 12 points while Lucas Phillips dropped in five. Will Molander, Justin Bone and Aaron Patterson each contributed two points. The win pushed the Tigers’ record to 25-4 overall.
Friday night, the Tigers traveled to Smyrna to take on Gabriel Christian Academy.
The Tigers jumped out to a 22-11 lead after the first period ended.
DeKalb maintained the lead at halftime with the score 37-30.
But in the third period Gabriel outscored DeKalb 17-15 to cut the lead to only three points.
In the final period, the Tigers' offense exploded for 27 points as DeKalb held Gabriel to 18 points to pull out the 77-65 victory.
Sonni Fullilove led DeKalb with 23 points followed by Ethan Roller who dropped in 18. Lucas Phillips had 14 points, while Braxton Atnip scored nine. Zach Vincent had seven points. Eli Lomas and Will Molander each added three points.
The Tigers ended their regular season Saturday night with a 66-50 win at Gordonsville.
After jumping out to a 19-16 lead in the first period, the Tigers held on to a slim 34-28 halftime lead. Keeping pace with one another, DeKalb edged Gordonsville 16-15 in the third.
However, in the final period, DeKalb outscored Gordonsville 16-7 to take home the 66-50 win.
Braxton Atnip led the Tigers with 29 points, followed by Sonni Fullilove's 17. Ethan Roller tossed in 11 with Lucas Phillips contributing seven points and Will Molander added two for the Tigers. The win improved DeKalb's record to 27-4.
The Tigers will play in the semi-finals of the 8-AA District Tournament Saturday night. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m.
