It took two extra periods to crown a winner Friday night as DeKalb County proved they were the top Tigers as the beat Macon County 85-51 in double overtime.
The overtime came off the hand of Dakota White who tipped the ball through the hoop as the buzzer sounded at the end of regulation. He led the Tigers on the night with 21 and set the tone for overtime as he hit the first eight points of the extra period, including a pair of threes.
The Tigers were able to go up 73-68 on the visiting Tigers half-way through the extra period; however, Macon was able to take advantage of a pair of ill-advised DeKalb shots to even the tilt up by the end of the first overtime. The Tigers had a chance to win the game in the first overtime as they held the ball for the last minute but a Dakota White basket came just after the buzzer sounded.
DeKalb County controlled the second overtime period, going up 81-73 by the half-way point of the second extra frame. A late three by Macon served as window dressing as they were unable to shave any more of the lead before the final buzzer.
The win came in what was a see-saw game that saw Macon leading 23-20 after one. DeKalb lead by a single at half, 37-36. Macon was up after three, 54-53 and the teams tied at 66 in regulation. The teams swapped the lead eight times in the fourth quarter. Cook contributed 17 for the Tigers in the high scoring affair.
The win was a pallet cleanser after DeKalb was hammered in Upperman earlier in the week, taking it on the chin 89-33 in a game where they didn’t score a single point in the first quarter.
